The Jets are 17-3-0 after a quarter of the season done. Are they lucky or are they the real deal?
As a Jet fan I want to know what non Jet fans think.
Are the Jets a top 4 team to win the cup?

They have, but if they go less than 17-3 in the next 20 games would you say they're underperforming? You need luck to go 17-3. You also need to be really good to be lucky enough to go 17-3.
Perhaps. It depends on how it looks. The thread was asking about what they have done and I’ve provided a perspective. To comment on what might happen in the next 20 and whether it’s this or that? That’s a game of folly.

Fair enough, they've looked great and I'm incredibly excited to be a Jets fan right now. Like I said, you definitely have to be good to get to a record like 17-3, but if they played exactly as well for the next 20 games I wouldn't expect them to repeat that record.

I was watching hockey when Bobby Hull played in the WHA (actually when he played in Chicago). I’ve always had a big soft spot for the Jets. My avatar is probably a giveaway. I hope sometime soon they go deep in the playoffs and maybe even….well you know.

The Jets are total frauds, nothing to see here. Move along please.
When you say Jets , do you mean Senators?

They are PDOing hard. Of course, Hellebuyck is a part of the team, but they're probably getting somewhat lucky. PDO 1.056.

I remember halfway through last season when Canucks had 1.05 PDO in January, their fans wouldn't believe they were due to regress. Canucks finished the season with 1.025 PDO(which was the top PDO in the entire league).

Real in what way? Last team to have a start close to this was the 22-23 Bruins. Historically great regular season, lost in the first round. So was that team not for real?

Jets are a good team, so they’re for real in that sense. But in the modern NHL predicting playoff success is tough in November. TDL, form and health play a huge part, teams are so close.

But yeah, enjoy the season. I doubt they crash burn to a point where you have to worry about making the playoffs.

They really don't have any weaknesses, I don't see how anyone can say they aren't "for real".. especially when you have the best goaltender in the league on your side.

In that saying, literally anything can happen in the playoffs.. Just look at the Bruins and couple years ago.

As a Jet fan this is a fair take. The Jets have blown it the last two PO's series they played.
Are the Jets the Leafs 2.0?
Maybe.
Until they make it to the SC final and win they like Toronto are pretenders not contenders.
Does that matter this year though really? Every season is different and anything can happen. People put way too much stock into previous seasons. The Blues were year in year out disappointments in the playoffs before they won a cup. It's completely unreasonable and illogical to say that because of last year this year will be exactly the same.

I'll keep saying this in every thread until people stop repeating it: the 1st overall seed in the Western Conference beating the 2nd wild card team is not unexpected. Even if we ignore hindsight which saw the 1st overall seed in the Western Conference lose only 6 games in the playoffs en route to a championship.

Biggest questionmark for me is...they've got probably the best 3rd line in the game. One of the best 3rd lines to come along in a long time even. But their "2nd line" is kind of...suspect. That's obviously working just fine for them right now, but in a grinding head to head series, i don't know how that holds up. Makes them a bit of a weird team to assess how "for real" they are.
