Are teams in the playoffs allowed to trade with other teams?

For example, are the pens allowed to trade with the caps, or the red wings during the playoffs? I've always been curious of this. Can someone explain why or why not teams are allowed to trade?

you can make a trade, but that player is no longer allowed to play in the playoffs, because the rule is you need to be on the 50 SPC Roster list by the trade deadline. Any sort of transaction between different teams after the trade deadline means that player is no longer allowed to play for that team in the playoffs, this includes the team he was traded to.

The only exception is if a prospect is under control of that team. The team can sign him to a contract and burn a year off the ELC to play that player in the playoffs... See Chris Kreider in 2012 Playoffs

My understanding is teams can always pull off trades, expect for trade freeze periods.. i.e. christmas break.

The trade deadline is there as the deadline for players traded to be eligible for the playoffs. So you won't see playoff team make trades till their seasons are done since there zero incentive to lose an eligible player without being able to replace em.

I believe there have been a handful of trades during the playoffs in past yrs between a couple of non-playoff teams... but there is minimal incentive to even pull those off... since half the market are still using the assets a non-playoff team may be after..

I can see a few potential (2017) UFAs for draft pick trades being made between now and the end of the playoffs.

You thinking that cuz of the expansion draft? possibly.
It's a unique yr in which we are told expect some trades we would never see otherwise.. so the timing of trades may be part of that...

No. Trade deadline was March 1. No trades after that

The person I have in mind specifically is Ben Bishop
