Mariner signs for the same number as Leon (because you can’t stop the Leafs, you can only hope to slow em down). Rantenen and Kap sign for $15 and McDacid signs for $16.
The playoffs respectfully disagree about that leafs comment .. haha sorry couldnt help myself .. continue on with the conversation .. i guess i should add a comment about the subject at hand .... I agree with most everyone .. GM's do some crazy stuff on july 1rst .. i dont expect this year to be different

I can't be the only person who finds it annoying when people make a thread about a specific player and then misspells their name right? At least Marner is easy to spell so 1 for 3 isn't that bad.....
I should have spelled his name as Marnor

I wonder where you draw the line. Kyle Connor is 1 pt back of marner and ahead in goals does that make him a 13 million guy?

As a Wild fan I’d be ecstatic with Kaprizov at $14m. With cap likely going up further, would imagine that percentage threshold would rise above that and that’s what it’s going to cost.

All depends on how the next CBA addressed tax-free states in order to balance the salary cap for all teams. If a variable cap system is introduced to address this disparity, then $14M is possible. If not, then I doubt it as no team will make him their highest paid player.
You could've just said no

Leafs players don't take league comparables they just compare themselves to each other. As usual Marner is far more productive than Nylander. So, the only question is how much better is he than Nylander. Marner is going to finish 20 points a head of Nylander. How much is that worth? It's going to be significant.

Given that Rantanen is a "centre", 6'4 and proven in the playoffs he easily is.

The league will have a better handle on how much the cap will go up for the 2026-27 season, so that will help Kaprizov getting to 14+ if he walks.

Marner is probably 12-13.
Lol Rant isn't a centre even in quotation marks. Playing a handful of games there ever when Mac was injured counts for nothing for his position

That is not going to happen.

How many RFA years did the devils buy from Jack? How many UFA years did they buy?

I can use a crayon if it’s easier for you to follow along <3

So compare them to when Rantanen signed his last RFA deal and how many UFA years the Avs bought.

You’re comparing those contracts to guys about to hit UFA.

You really don’t get it.

Marner’s already making $11 and he’s about to make $14, in what universe is that similar to Jack’s $8 for the next 6 years?

The Rantanen contract is fine, and always has been. It’s just bananas that a tier-2 player (no disrespect to Marner or Rantanen, unbelievable players but not franchise cornerstone players) are going to make $14+.

The leafs will not learn and will resign Marner to big money again. I wouldn’t be against giving him 12-13m but Nylander makes 11.5 so..

Well the cap is expected to rise to over $100m for 26/27 season so it would be 14% of the cap hit, which I think would be fair for the top players in the league.
It’s still going to be proportionally too much money to spend on a winger, for a team with aspirations of winning a cup.

The Avs won the Cup with Rantanen making 11.3% of the cap. Obviously, 14% will make the job that much more difficult, but with the Avs injury history, they should still be able to make the numbers work without too much trouble, especially if Ritchie can contribute while still on his ELC.
