Marner does look great this season and Maple Leafs always get whatever amount they want. If Marner actually isn’t a sap in the playoffs he will get Auston money. Maybe 500k less if he’s feeling generous.

Teams are stupid on July 1, he'll get way too much money even if he's his usual self come playoff time.

And whatever team signs it won't win shit with him there

All depends on how the next CBA addressed tax-free states in order to balance the salary cap for all teams. If a variable cap system is introduced to address this disparity, then $14M is possible. If not, then I doubt it as no team will make him their highest paid player.

Given that Rantanen is a "centre", 6'4 and proven in the playoffs he easily is.

The league will have a better handle on how much the cap will go up for the 2026-27 season, so that will help Kaprizov getting to 14+ if he walks.

Marner is probably 12-13.

Centers get that. Wingers do not.

I'd rather sign 2 players at $7M than one at $14M

It's about ROI. Their production will likely drop and get worse thag last 3-4 yrs of that contract

I think I'd rather have Rantanen over Troy Terry and Dylan Guenther (the two wingers who are most closely being paid 7M AAV) Both those guys are fantastic. But I'll take the guy that is 2nd in the league in scoring and a proven playoff performer.

Yes they all will be or will be very close to 14 million.

Their are three ways to get a star player on your team;

1- draft and develop them

2- trade for them but star players rarely get traded and never for cheap

3- sign them as a UFA and overpay

Signing a player as a UFA is the easiest but most expensive way at to do it. Keep in mind that you are competing against 31 other teams and what their offers are. Plus if you look to sign a UFA as opposed to trading for one you are not giving up any assets in acquiring that player.

They will be if they demand it. I know Rantanen will get it if that’s the difference between him staying or leaving. Hopefully he’s reasonable and settled for a bit less…

Marner should be less.

None of them are in drai category.
He got 14.

rantanen scored way more goals over his career.

Kaprizov is another year right?

So I would say.

Drai 14
Rant 12.75-13.25
Marner 12.25-12.75
Won't have to be if the cap continues to climb. If anything Draisaitl's contract came at a shitty time for him.

It's the same season. Leon literally just re-upped in the fall. Salary stuff doesn't change that much in just a few months.

14M........crazy guys. I know the cap is going up, and one GM has already given out 14M to Drai with the Oilers..............but it seems too much of a jump.

I know I am old school.........but the fans of Canadian teams are already paying 400 bucks to be in the lower bowl for a seat........

All very good players here who are heading to ufa status, and they all will get paid.

I can't be the only person who finds it annoying when people make a thread about a specific player and then misspells their name right? At least Marner is easy to spell so 1 for 3 isn't that bad.....

The Leafs have the ability to go to 8 years and maybe can convince him to defer to artificially lower the hit while simultaneously being able to offer up a lot of his salary as signing bonuses.

Marner likes the number 93 because he grew up a Gilmour fan, maybe they can get him at 11.93M x 8 years, maybe it's around 12.5M ranger actual salary but deferrals help the team a bit.

If this deal isn't enough for Marner, you need to walk.
