It’s a bit odd with him because typically you want your defensemen to stay out of the box but he plays that enforcer role out there and he’s constantly racking PIMs. On top of it he has the profile of a penalty killer, you usually want your bottom pairing guys and bottom 6 forwards to have one differentiating quality whether that be PK,PP, Faceoff specialist, etc.

So you have a guy that’s always in the box, who’s average to below average at everything other than physicality, and that might not be available to PK because he’s the one taking penalties.

Because he’s a pugilist, and being one of the first real enforcers in Montreal for a long time, it has created this type of situation where what he brings on the ice to help a team win hockey games is not close to his reputation amongst the Habs fanbase. He has more emotional value to Montreal’s fanbase than he does as a hockey player.

I think a team would take a flyer on him for a 2nd/3rd or a younger guy who can’t crack a roster.

I really don’t see a team giving more than that for him, and the only reason I could see a team giving up to a 2nd rounder is because he’s big and physical and the league always puts value on these guys … often more than they should. IE Josh Anderson.

Just to put some feelers out there. What could Habs get Xhekaj?
I would say a team could potentially give up a 3rd for him… Possibly an added lower end prospect attached to that 3rd. His value isn’t very much at all in a trade. Also his physical play that he was known for last season doesn’t seem to be the same as it was last year. Unsure if he had to adjust his style of play due to the injuries he has had already or what.

In my opinion though the best way to move him though would be if he was a part of a bigger trade. Like if Habs were looking to acquire something significant and Wifi was involved in the package deal from Montreal.

There’s 0 incentive for Habs to trade him for that return. They don’t need to deal him, they’ll hold onto him and hope he develops. No one’s doing the Habs a favour by giving them more of the same of what they already have.
Teams and fans of those teams want him for the same reason the Habs want him.

That’s fine, but that’s still his value.

He’s playing on the team with the leakiest defence in the league and he still doesn’t start every game.

Patience is fine in this scenario but the jury is still out as to whether he’ll have a long NHL career.

I’d certainly take a flyer on him as I like what he brings but for a 3rd at best.

Guys value is less then a second round pick. Dudes a liability and only good to entertain shit teams. No contender will pay shit for him. Outside Montreal noone gives a f*** about him. So Montreal should keep him until they are good and then send him to the moon thanking him for the fun memories. No team seriously trying to win will use him for more then spot duty.

his value is what a team will pay for him.
I'm sure you'd take a flyer on him, as would many teams / fanbases.
patience is a virtue with young Dmen. you guys always happy with Chabot?

He isn't available for a 3rd, and I believe habs will continue to develop him

Well he certainly is not worth a 1st. What the heck do you think Montreal would get for him in a trade? He is a #6 or 7 D on one of the worst teams in the league.
But he punches stuff and has a cool name/nickname. At least 1st + top prospect :sarcasm:

Yeah rent free. This is a hockey message board for fans that are big hockey fans. The average hockey fan isn't an hf poster. Outside Montreal noone gives a f about the guy. Period.
I'm sure no one outside of the millions of habs fans cares about Arber, but you sure cared enough to pop up in here and rage message
