Dear All,

If I may I would like to open this discussion about one of the most beloved players of the Montreal Fans.
Arber A.K.A WIFI Xhekaj
The vast majority here in Montreal think that Wifi fears no one and we believe that he will soon be in the TOP fighters in the league.
My question is, what do fans of the other teams think? If we compare Xhekaj to other tough guys ; Ryan Reaves, Nicolas Deslauriers, Milan Lucic, Tom Wilson, etcc.
Where do you think WIFI ranks?

To my dear fans of our rivals, I am very aware that not everyone likes to see post created in the general forum about players of my team.

This post is not to measure who pisses the farthest, I am aware that this season our division is tougher than ever and as we have already seen in the first game VS Toronto.... Arber is going to have to fight hard.

Like this player alot. Tough Albanian dude (Domi tough).

Good story, but he is nothing more than a bottom pairing defender.
That's a bit harsh, I would give him a few years in the league before calling him nothing more than a bottom-pairing defenseman. He was passed over by every team in the league and made it on a tryout, didn't play in the AHL and is holding his own in the best hockey league in the world. He has exceeded every expectation thus far and if you were to poll GM's around the league right now, do you think they wouldn't love to have him on their roster?

He seems like he could become a really good player and he is definitely tough. The fight the other night with Reaves really didn't amount to much apart from Xhekaj showing he's willing to take him on. I think more of when two guys actually square up and go at it. Even then.....the winner might not win a second time around if it happens. MacDermid in Colorado is definitely top 5 by the way.

Honestly I'm a little disapointed that OP reduced the discussion to fighting.

Agreed with the Lucic comment.

I was skeptical at first, but Xhekaj showed insane improvements and is a legit player. Yes he can fight with the heaviest of them, but he's part of that rare breed that can both fight and play ala Lucic in his prime.

Im curious to see how much he can elevate his game still. Hes being tried on PP2, which surprised me, but from my little watching of the game he made a solid play or teo on there.

Another comparison I guess would be a like a Tom Wilson, albeit hopefully without the suspensions. Obviously Xhekaj is on D, but if he does grow into an offensive role as well, Id be hard press to find a D comparable

I remember very well some time ago, in one of the peek of the great rivalry Boston VS Montreal.

A certain Milan Lucic destroyed our champion of that time.

a black day for any habs fan

Komeserik was never "our champion"
But he was willing and he did get throttled by Lucic.
Then Lucic did it again to Kommy while he was on the leafs

Good story, but he is nothing more than a bottom pairing defender.

He has potential to be a little bit more, but right now he is a bottom pairing defender.

I guess it's semantics with 'really good player' but realistically not a high ceiling. I can see him growing into a solid #4/#5 dman who logs 18-20 or so minutes, who doesn't drive play but doesn't hurt you out there either. Brendan Dillon who also went undrafted sort of sprang to mind.

I would love to have him on my team. He represents one of my favorite player types and he does it very well. As fighting is becoming more and more irrelevant I wouldn't worry about where to rank him among the few pugilists the league still has.

He’s awesome but that Reaves fight was a draw.

Reaves hits Guhle.
Arber jumps in.
Reaves gets a few shots.
Then Arber does.
Then they go into the net.

But then Reaves was avoiding him all game! Yeah, almost like there’s some sort of code between players and it was a close game, or something.

Fearless and I respect that - but you don’t want him fighting every game because he’s actually a very good player, great at clearing the crease and getting shots through.
