Came home today and I hear my two year old, who's in the basement with the sitter, scream "daddy's home, daddy's home." I get to the top of the stairs just in time to see her running full speed, trip and go head first into the wall hard. I was home for literally 10 seconds lol. She cried for a minute but was fine. She has a pretty good mouse on her forhead and under her eye. All because she loves her daddy, lol. Luckily she's able to talk and explain to mommy that it wasn't daddy's fault. Haha.

The joys of parenting.

Kids should be required to wear football helmets until around age 4.

Me: Yup, I made the right call deciding to just rely on my tablet and not get a new laptop.
*Risk of Rain 2 gets released*
Me: .... *starts looking at new gaming laptops*

C'mon Switch version....

How you feeling about the Switch Pro rumors? If it happens, I'm probably in.

Dunno. Going to have to see some details. I'm fine with the Switch1.0, but it did definitely churn a bit at parts in BotW. If it's actually more powerful and a new 3D Zelda game gets announced in the next couple of years, I might upgrade, but we'll see.

Cook County is adopting a flat recording fee in May that's higher what would've been charged for almost all standard mortgage docs that get recorded as it is.

Be a little less obvious with the money-grubbing, Cook County. No other county in the collar area has that high of a recording cost set as a flat fee. You're effectively charging everything at your current 26-page rate ($98) when most mortgages are about 17-pages ($80).

For comparison's sake, the flat rates for mortgages for the following counties are:

DuPage - $54
Kane - $62
Kendall - $53
Lake - $60
McHenry - $56
Will - $51

Of the counties I regularly deal with, only Grundy County remotely has a comparable amount at $89 as their flat rate.

Wife is binge watching game of thrones. I don’t know how she or others could binge a show like this. Every damn episode is the same of just killing killing and more killing.

There’s a little bit of talk about this on the GoT thread on the main board. A lot of people’s favorite episodes of the show are the ones with huge battles. I love the dialogue and politics more than anything. It does a real good job balancing over a dozen characters, giving them substantial individual plots that simultaneously meld well together

I'd suggest sticking with GOT. I was late to the party but I love it. I agree that the politics of it is just as good if not better than the action.

This is a weird friday night for me. I got the night off of work so I could study for a huge test on monday, but that's all done now. Two of my 3 best friends are out of country, the other is in the burbs for a family dinner, my girl is working late. I have a very rare Friday off of work, all of my schoolwork is done, and I have nothing to do. I'm beside myself with total freedom right now. So a little hockey, a little online hockey forum, a cocktail or 3, and this should be a relaxing night. Anyway...

Whatcha Drinkin'?:
Leatherbee Gin Martini... 3oz Gin (Leatherbee, my favorite gin), .5oz dry vermouth, gave a lemon peel a squeeze over the glass to extract the citrus and oils from the skin, and added a half-crack of black pepper into the shaker (a trick an Argentinian bartender taught me), stirred for about 20 seconds.

YUUUUUUMMMMMMMY

Side Note: I've mentioned earlier that I bartend. I make A LOT of martinis at work and three things I always see people do makes me scratch my head.

1) No Dry Vermouth in their martinis-->No exaggeration, 90% of martinis I make aren't made with vermouth at all. People don't like it for whatever reason. So if they don't order a dirty martini, all they're getting is 3oz of plain, chilled vodka or gin. Woof!

2) Dirty Martinis-->People LOVE dirty martinis. Personally I think all it does to your drink is salt it up with all that olive juice. Especially if you're going to get a nicer vodka/gin, I feel like it takes away from the natural flavors of the booze when you get an "Extra Dirty" martini. Squeezing a lemon/orange or any citrus peel over the cocktail glass goes a long way with flavor and aroma. Even making it a little dirty is good, the salt brings out a lot of flavors and balances the liquor.

3) Shaken, not Stirred-->Stirring a martini happens even less than putting vermouth in one. People think your drink can't be ice cold if it's not shaken like a mad man for 30 seconds and they absolutely love seeing the mini ice shavings at the top of their drink when it gets poured out in front of them. When you shake it you're actually super-diluting it with ice, and temperature affects how well you taste something so when it's ice cold it's harder to taste the drink

Nerdy bartender rant over

martini talk

Maybe the shaken, not stirred choice comes from them wanting to feel like they're James Bond. I think a lot of drinkers acquire they're ordering preferences from suggestions in Esquire or some random "here's how to fit in at a bar and be the life of the party" suggestion guide they found online.

It might be the best television show ever. It’s The Wire good.

Watch it dude.

If I took it one episode a week I think it’d be not as bad, but binge watching it seems a bit much.

Probably won’t watch it though. My wife can’t walk for another 4 weeks so every time I come home she’s watching it. Last night she watched an episode of some dude squeezing another dudes head and eyeballs and crushing it. Just disgusting.
