No this is not a "Rant because we are losing" thread :p:

Ive just noticed that ever since that remarkable goal in pittsburgh Josh Bailey has not been doing much for the team offensively.

This is a shame because it looked like he was really confident in his play the first 10 games or so. I remember him deking through the other teams defense and saying to myself if that went in that would've been a highlight reel goal. Now within these last few games bailey (and Grabner, although not entirely) have just not been doing anything!

Maybe I'm not noticing his contributions (if I'm not can someone please tell me what he has been doing?)

But to me he's incredibly inconsistant throughout his whole career
Anyone surprised? Maybe I'm just bummed out he didn't break through yet
Do you think he'll ever turn into a great player and fulfill what a 9th overall pick should do? (which is play good!)

I really believe that his play when he's not being flashy is still good. He usually makes the right decisions with the puck and doesn't just turn it over every time he touches it, which can't be said about some of the players on this team.

His lack of production since the early going is probably because Cappy decided to change the lines, again, and put Bailey with Nielsen and PMB instead of on the top line with Vanek/JT or the 2nd line with Nielsen/Grabner/Okposo. PMB is extremely soft, doesn't shoot hard, well, or often and doesn't go anywhere that might result in contact. Nielsen has also cooled off, and I really think it's because of PMB being on that line. Grabner and Okposo will put pressure on the puck in the corner, which allows Bailey and/or Nielsen to pick it up when it is sent up the wall (both are very good at that). Bailey is good at puck possession, not the run and gun style of play. Right now they seem to be skating back and forth too much, with no sustained pressure in the offensive zone.

I'd rather have Grabner or Nelson on the 2nd line (if Cappy refuses to move Okposo off the top line) than PMB. And deal with a line that just won't produce offensively in the 3rd line.

Im dissapointed with him this year, offensively at least.

Everyone need to step it up at this point and we need Viz back! We are dominating but get no results at the moment. Frustrating to say the least

Didn't Bailey go quiet when PMB went on that line? Put Grabner back on that line you will see the Bailey in the beginning of the season.

Dumbest move by a coach in the NHL this year. That line was dominating. Also part of Cappy's greatest hits was putting Macdonald on the PP, and Regin on the 2nd team pp.

Bailey has gone quiet offensively but I'd rather him do that than be noticeable for making mistakes.

??

Why would this be news?

He has done this every year he has been playing. Why some people think that he has "finally arrived" Ill never know.

Just like the team he plays on, he disappears for weeks/months on end.

< yawn >

Nielsen would have gone quiet too if it wasn't for all the PP time he gets.

Our 2nd and 3rd lines have no chemistry. They're broken.

since day one of that line being assembled I've been complaining about three small, pass-first players on the same line makes ZERO sense. When they're playing WELL, they are good at puck possession and perimeter passing, rarely getting close to the net. None are good perimeter shooters at all, so there's zero chance of offense 5on5. They are also weak, physically, and susceptible to larger forwards and being pinned in their own zone without the puck.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard specifically though, SUCKS. Watch how he swipes his stick near an opposing player, trying really hard not to accidentally make body contact. Elvis Stojko is more physical. Shameful.

More shameful is that the coach doesn't recognize this. He keeps the line together and keeps playing PMB, maybe believing things will change. He must also believe in Santa Claus.

anyone notice that it happened when they put PMB on the 2nd line and Grabner on the 3rd...

bingo.

Grabner played well yesterday. I like the way that whole line competed Grabs-Regin-Nelson.

Josh is just not very good. People make a dozen excuses for the guy. If he was a consistent 22 goal scorer is say he was good. Consisten 32 goal scorer -very good. Consistent 15-19 goal scorer? Not very good.

I actually think Josh has still been playing well. Been creating a decent amount of offense, that line just hasn't been able to bury them lately. He's made his fair share of boneheaded plays though, including those annoying drop passes to no one, but hopefully he continues to work on that.

I agree though, this line will continue to struggle as long as it contains three pass-first players. Grabner is the obvious choice to replace PMB, but I'm not picky. Give me Nelson. Just get Bouchard the hell out of here.

The drop passes to nobody doesn't always fall on him. Most teams run specific entries into the zone, if the guy who is supposed to be following that up doesn't, well then it makes Bailey look bad even though it wasn't his mistake.

There is no way for us to know for sure that is what happened last night, but I'd be inclined to think that it was supposed to happen because of how often the team does it as a whole. It also illuminates the fact that there isn't any chemistry with PMB on the line.

Maybe Bailey's silence is related to PMB's promotion? Maybe Wang didn't like paying for PMBust and Garth told Cappy to try and get more out of egg head so his GM would stop looking silly for hiring egghead to be John's wing?

The entire second line, which has carried this team all season, has disappeared. Hence the struggle to score goals suddenly and further proof of the lack of depth they have.

So wait a minute, you're saying that the Islanders Powerplay being 3 for 26 (all three goals by moulson) over the last 8 games since AMAC got PP1 duty, isn't good? And 0 for 21 the last 6 games is somehow bad?

In all seriousness EVERYONE saw this coming (the Isles PP turning to garbage with AMAC on the first unit) except for Capuano, Weight and some genius poster (who I will not name) that actually tried to justify this move before it happened and attempted to debate me on it. LOL

I obviously hate having AMac on the PP, but I wouldn't mind it as much if he never tries to enter the zone with the puck on his stick again. Not sure what he's trying to prove, or who he's trying to kid.

Have you noticed Hammer's offensive flair this year? Any chance that the same guy you reference is telling them Hammer is an offensive defenseman? Awkward, poorly executed, doomed to fail... Just what I am seeing every time he does his best (ill fated) Bobby Orr impression.

Bailey's career has been quiet. I laugh every time he has a good game or two because i know some one on here will guarantee his number will be retired one day.
