I think this was intentional and if anything the point was to avoid this. NAT-USA/CAN = playing against your own country.

yet instead you create the year layer overheard and will constantly be used as a topic of discussion of how, oh the potential what could of been match... which maybe is more powerful than having it been a showcased set up type not actual in the finals.

Darn................does that mean we have to settle for the greatest hockey rivalry of all-time in the semi-final on Saturday - Canada/Russia? I was so looking forward to Canada playing..................uh..........um...........Canada. Oh, and the USA. Yeah, them too.
Nah, give me an actual country for a game that will have some actual passion and teeth behind it. If anyone noticed, McDavid is the first player that made a veiled complaint about this format today. Yeah, a 19 year old kid is the only one with the guts to speak out against it. Not Sidney "management" Crosby. But McDavid. He simply said in 4 years he would not want to play for NA but for "his country." He was careful how he worded it but the gist of it was "it's been fun but I want to be serious in 4 years". He also set his sight on the Olympics in 2018.

Well they did win 2 out of their 3 games.
Maybe the NHL instead of having a lame Team NA-Czech Republic game for the last pre-tournament game could've scheduled that as Team NA-Canada instead.
But that would require some actual fore thought, something the NHL apparently has problems with.

I'm a bit relieved that Canada is playing the Russians, now that is a true rivalry. Canada vs NA wouldn't feel right considering a number of Canadians are on said North American team.
How is it a marketing failure that the gimmick team lost to Russia and Sweden?

I pity the people that couldn't get past NA being a "gimmick" team, I really do. They let jingoism get in the way of enjoying some of the fastest hockey I've ever seen. Selanne said he thought it was the fastest team ever assembled, and I'd have to agree.
Would some just prefer the NHL get rid of the sport and just script everything so it plays out in a way that makes them happy i.e. like wrestling?

And they lost that game because Murray was too dumb to take a rest after injuring his finger...
Russia doesn't belong anywhere near Canada this tournament. I'm sure team NA would at least keep that game close, Russia's just gonna get smoked.
Oh well, time for Canada to dominate the rest of the tournament... How exciting.

They beat Sweden. Lost to Russia on a fluke injury. But yep one loss and you're out. Strange format.

Because some of us remember when teams and countries hated each other on the ice and it always made for better hockey. I would refer anyone to the 1996 World Cup for instance as an example.

Team NA was better than Russia in the game. Team NA would also lose to Canada, but it would have been a fun game to see.

If you weren't so dense, you'd clearly see that the only reason North America lost to Russia was because of Matt Murray trying to make saves with an injured finger, which caused 4 straight goals on 4 straight shots... About as dumb as it gets, really.
Aside from Murrays epic **** up, team NA skated circles around Russia that whole game and made them look like a slow beer league team.
I disagree, I think that team NA would have been destroyed by team Canada, but i agree with you that Russia has no chance to beat Canada.
