Ankle Brace Inside Skate?

I'm not sure if anyone has done this before, but I've suffered two - I would t say serious, but pretty bad- ankle injuries to my right ankle within the last month. I can skate almost pain free, but my right ankle just can't be twisted to the right, away from my body.

Because of that I was wondering if anyone has ever worn an ankle brace inside their skate. Im very willing to try but I also know that when you have your skate fitted, there really isn't that much more room in the boot for anything else. I was just wondering how it might affect the fitting.

Thanks

I severely sprained my right ankle a few months back and now I wear a lace up brace on my right ankle. It has plastic inserts on both sides. Other than getting my boot on(which is difficult) it is really not to noticeable and definitely helps with my ankle.

Kind of looks like this

Edit forgot to mention that the plastic inserts. Insert from the top so sometimes I take them out when putting the boot on and then once it is on slide them down into place. Makes it a lot easier. Another thing you could try to do is tape it. Get some athletic tape and tape it tight would take up less space than a brace and still offer some support.

I use the neoprene sleeves which are as thick as a pair of normal socks...yeah, it does make for a tighter fit but it's not uncomfortable or changes how the skate fits dramatically.

I tried it and it didn't feel right as well as my teamate, we both had it at the same time. It can be done but we just tape it up and it's good to go.

I tape my ankle. Braces never allowed my skate to fit. I use athletic tape. You can find methods of taping just about every part of your body on YouTube. Tape is just much tighter and allows normal fit...but I have spent a lot of $$$ on tape over the last 10-12 years and boy I wish an ankle brace would work as well. Good luck with it. Strong ankles are kind of important to skating.

I had a pretty bad sprain a few years back and I tried all kinds of tapings and braces but in my opinion, there is only one that works and it looks like the one 650X2 shows above.

The ankle brace I have does not have plastic inserts but it is a thick material (like canvas) and it has the laces. It provides outstanding support and fits well inside my Bauers. I suggest taking your skate with you and go to a general sports store to try one on.

Be careful not to rely on the brace. Rehab is key with this kind of injury:

Clearly the bottom line is rehab+not reinjuring the ankle but does wearing a brace then changing back to just tape and eventually no brace screw up the padding in your skate (compressed too much or torn)?

If so, I can wear my old skates or just plan for new ones earlier :)

I really didn't notice the difference too much. I wore the brace for about a month and then put it away. Tape never worked well for me but maybe that's because I lacked the patience to do it right.
