How come major league baseball players get paid so much more than NFL and NHL players @Marc the Habs Fan

Tavares who hit FA as a premier player only got 7 yrs 77 m

Trout was extended for 12 years and 430m

Why the stark differential

Well deserved. Hopefully the Angels can end their incompetence and properly build around him sometime soon.

Well, look at the difference between league revenues for one. One league also has a salary cap and the other doesn't.

As for the NFL, some QBs make close to this. But there's also a salary cap and they have to spread around the revenue between more players.

Rodgers extension was for 4 years and about 134m. No NFL player would even come close to 430m.

Good for Trout and awesome news for Angels fans to have him stick around. Now time to surround him with the right support.

MLB TV deals (locally and nationally) alone are enough to cover the majority if not all of a team's salary. Some may hate baseball and it's "slowness", particularly younger people, but it remains America's pastime and an absolute money monster.

Not to mention MLB teams have twice as many home games as NHL teams.

And stadiums that can seat twice as many people as NHL arenas.

MLB also has a huge international market with Asia and Southern America to drive revenues out of that the NHL doesn't.

I'm talking annual salaries.

No one signs longer than 5 or 6 years in the NFL anymore. Both Vick and McNabb signed 10+ year contracts but that was over a decade ago.

I wonder if they'll start capping some of these long term deals in MLB. 12 years for Trout, and a similar length for Bryce.

Heck, we haven't seen a decade long deal in the NHL in some time. Rick DiPietro

On this day 10 years ago, the New York Islanders and first overall draft pick in the 2000 draft agreed to a 15 year $67.5 million contract.

Trout always seemed like a loyal guy so I'm not shocked but that 430M number just pops out at you. Damn

Wow...wonder if Harper recruiting him accelerated this deal. Angels better build around him.
