Proposal: Andrew Copp for Rickard Rakell

Idea is a 1 for 1 swap of 2 guys coming off of mediocre years. Copp solidifies the Penguins 3C role and gives them a versatile guy who can put up 35-40 points in that 3C usage. Rakell replaces Kane's role in Detroit (since it seems like Kane is leaving in free agency) and gives them a finesse top-6 RW who should put up between 40-50 points a year in a 2RW usage.

Copp is signed for 3 more years at $5.625 million, while Rakell is signed for 4 more years at $5 million.

Wouldn’t do it as a pens fan. We need to get younger and swapping Rakell for Copp doesn’t really help. Doubt Detroit wants Rakell as well. Maybe Smith for Bergren?

Pens can solve their Rakell issue by simply playing him with Sid where he has looked good. Bunting was great with Malkin. Just need to dump Smith.

I don't hate it. I don't hate Copp near as much as most Red Wings fans seem to, but I can't really crucify this trade.

I'm also fine not doing it.

Pretty fair honestly, but I’d be hesistant as a wings fan for that extra year. Although I think Rakell is the better player.

Copp hasn't been the same guy off the core surgery. I don't think they do this and you have his NTC and he is from Michigan so probably harder to get him to waive. I don't think the value is terrible though.

Value isnt terrible but I rather keep Copp than adding Rakell. Reason: Copp still has value defensively even if his offense has dried up. He's a better third liner than Rakell is a top-6 player.
