André Benoit

Other teams are probably looking at it like "well, he apparently isn't good enough to stick with Colorado's defensive group, so clearly he can't be very good."

kidding....kind of..

I'm surprised too. I'm thinking he's looking for a multi-year deal and teams are only offering 1.

Sadly for him it is the same story as last year, though I imagine someone would give him a decent one year deal vs the cheap deal he had last year.

He probably missed the best boat he could have had with the Avs, as I think if he had been willing to take another one year deal the Avs would have re-signed him and given him decent ice time. Hell, if Wilson was not around I would say the Avs should maybe still take a chance, but they can't really afford to have another over priced AHLer on the roster.

I can't believe at least 3-4 clubs out there were not willing to give him a two year deal at a decent price. Makes me wonder what he was asking for.

Probably the best bet for him would to either sign with a contender on a cheap contract or wait for camp to start and see if a team has an injury or a prospect that is not ready.

Didn't Roy mention that he was hoping to resign him? What changed? You'd figure that a bald Quebecois wouldn't be the type of player he'd let go. I mean we had Tanguay, Giguere, Cliche, and Benoit, and behind the bench we even have Tourigny. That's an identity.

But what now? It looks like we'll be starting the season with three of those players out of the lineup. I suppose Briere or Bordeleau could be long-term projects, hell even Talbot if he resigns. But as it stands now I'm not impressed with this new direction of the team.

Hunwick type player in my opinion, just doesn't have any stand-out qualities but at the same time he's not completely awful. Will be hard for him to find a new NHL job though.

probably asked for too much when FA started and from the avs. i guess it's the same with winnik. they'll get a job if they want it and are willing to sign for reasonable price. which for many teams at this point is probably more like 1 mil for a year.

Think his spot was taken by Noreau. He might have to take a two way deal with a team now but can't imagine a team won't take a look at him. And he's not a Frenchie, just his name sounds like it ;)

It was rumored that Benoit didn't re-sign here because he wanted a multi-year deal and the Avs only wanted to give a one year deal. I imagine that is his hold up now as well, but he will have to cave at some point and re-earn his way back onto a team. You would think that depth players would learn their lesson as every year the same sorts of stories play out... if you find a good place to play and they are willing to extend you, you should take that instead of trying to shop yourself constantly. Winnik never seems to learn this.

The reason they do it every year is that every year a few depth players manage to cash in - see Kyle Quincey's payday or Brooks Orpik. Granted Benoit is a tier below them probably, but not that far.

Also, as Leafs fans learned... Jeff friggen Finger.

One of my biggest pet peeves. He is from Ontario. A small town near ottawa that makes awesome cheese!

For everyone out there: Not because he is canadian and has a french name that he is automatically from Quebec. East Ontario has a large population of french Canadians!

So he's still French though right? His first name is actually André. There's no way an anglophone names their kid André. That's some francophone **** right there.

Benoit isn't from Quebec? Well i had no idea...

Next someone's gonna tell me that someone with a name as French as "Claude Giroux" ain't Quebecois either!

Yup. The same way an english person from NY is as english as one from southern texas.

Doesn't mean we call everyone New-yorkers.

Fyi, he said Quebecois. Call everyone Frenchies, who cares. Although maybe the actual ''Frenchy'' may be offended

hahaha

I posted that I wanted Colorado to re-sign him, and someone mentioned to me he would probably get a multi-year contract north of 2 million annually.

He will likely sign a one-year deal with similar money to the 900K he made last season. Benoit probably priced himself out of the market, and right now the only contracts getting signed are one year "value rebuild" deals (Lee Stempniak, Chris Butler, Derek Roy, etc.).

I'm pretty sure Rene Bourque is of Metis descent, which usually explains the "French names out West" population.

Sabres fan here, in peace!

Looks like he played a bunch with you guys and put up a few points! What role did he play for you guys?

Is he an NHL guy now? Or is he an AHL guy?

Thanks!

NHL guy I'd say, he solidified that with us. He's a decent offensive Dman but not a PP QB. A good depth player to have. Good quy, nothing flashy but generally gets the job done. There were a few bad games and mistakes of course but he was generally solid. We would have been ok having him back especially in a depth role. Played second or third pairing for us depending on who his partner was at the time, more of a third pairing guy but he can spot up.
