I'm surprised too. I'm thinking he's looking for a multi-year deal and teams are only offering 1.
It was rumored that Benoit didn't re-sign here because he wanted a multi-year deal and the Avs only wanted to give a one year deal. I imagine that is his hold up now as well, but he will have to cave at some point and re-earn his way back onto a team. You would think that depth players would learn their lesson as every year the same sorts of stories play out... if you find a good place to play and they are willing to extend you, you should take that instead of trying to shop yourself constantly. Winnik never seems to learn this.
Didn't Roy mention that he was hoping to resign him? What changed? You'd figure that a bald Quebecois wouldn't be the type of player he'd let go. I mean we had Tanguay, Giguere, Cliche, and Benoit, and behind the bench we even have Tourigny. That's an identity.
But what now? It looks like we'll be starting the season with three of those players out of the lineup. I suppose Briere or Bordeleau could be long-term projects, hell even Talbot if he resigns. But as it stands now I'm not impressed with this new direction of the team.
I need a new avatar.
One of my biggest pet peeves. He is from Ontario. A small town near ottawa that makes awesome cheese!
For everyone out there: Not because he is canadian and has a french name that he is automatically from Quebec. East Ontario has a large population of french Canadians!
So he's still French though right?
Benoit isn't from Quebec? Well i had no idea...
Next someone's gonna tell me that someone with a name as French as "Claude Giroux" ain't Quebecois either!

Same with Benoit Pouliot haha I think hes from Ontario.
And Rene Bourque is from Edmonton. My world is crumbling around me
I'm pretty sure Rene Bourque is of Metis descent, which usually explains the "French names out West" population.
