Is it possible that they know they have oodles of cap space next year and that this is a holding transaction that doesn’t stop them from trying to find a younger/potentially as capable goalie too?We still need a goalie. Freddie is getting older and hasn’t really at any point been consistently reliable. It’s hurt us in the playoffs before, we’ll see if it does this year. I get protecting ourselves in case we can find something that makes sense, but signing on for another year of the same doesn’t really further the cause at this point. It’s insurance that may or may not actually help if we need it.
FWIW/ the marketplace would hold the Canes up without having Freddie as a roster player too.
