Confirmed with Link: Andersen 1y Ext 2.75m

Definitely the best free agent option no doubt, but was kinda hoping they’d use some assets in a trade to get someone either better or at least more durable. Not surprised with this outcome though given how this org seems to value goalies. He’s been playing rather well of late.

He can erase all the second-guessing in my mind by carrying us to the SCF.

I would have waited to see how the rest of the playoffs go I mean he really hasn’t proven anything in the playoffs yet. I’m okay with it if the other guy in the tandem isn’t named Kochetkov

Cool with me, performance wise Freddie is about as consistently good as you can hope for. Injuries are for sure an issue, but look at the state of goaltending across the league and try to sell me on why this extension is a bad idea. Take the series Hellebuyck has had and you’ve really just got to accept the position is all dice rolls and coin flips.

Not just that there just isn't an upgrade available

We still need a goalie. Freddie is getting older and hasn’t really at any point been consistently reliable. It’s hurt us in the playoffs before, we’ll see if it does this year. I get protecting ourselves in case we can find something that makes sense, but signing on for another year of the same doesn’t really further the cause at this point. It’s insurance that may or may not actually help if we need it.

I mean, I get it. The options out there are very slim. But I can't believe we're sticking with a goalie that (I believe) has never had a season with us where he's not missing large periods of time due to injury.
I get where you’re coming from but in his time here he’s gone 82-35-5 with a .915 save percentage and won a Jennings trophy

No one's saying he's not great when healthy. The problem is when he goes out for months at a time and we're forced to rely on our 3rd-4th string goalies to hold us over until he recovers.

Assuming a 1 year deal at $3m-ish, I don't think you're doing much better anywhere else given the lack of options. For that price I'd rather have the guy who is above average for the 50% of the time he's healthy instead of just plain average but always available.

I think we still have to make one more move at goalie, either you find a way to turn PK++ into a more established goalie, or you find a younger guy who can be a better 3rd goalie than the Martin/Tokarski types and split time between Chicago/Raleigh as needed. But overall with the excess cap space available next year this is a pretty low risk/solid upside play, can't complain.

As much as I get where you're coming from, the goalie market is dead this off-season. Every single guy that could have been looked at as a replacement in UFA re upped at their current gig.

This tells me Vancouver is hanging on to Demko and that Anaheim still thinks it's a decade ago in terms of Gibsons value.

I mean I get it, the options out there are trash, but damn, we can't keep running it back. We need some goddamn reliability in net
Here's the thing. Some GM has to be willing to get rid of said better than and more reliable than Jennings winner Freddie goalie.

Ain't gonna happen friend doesn't matter what you throw at them. Best option is to find a guy a broken asset that can rebound behind your D until either you draft one or one becomes disgruntled where they are and forces a trade.

I don't think a single person disagrees with what you said.

Now name the goalie that is at least close to as good as Freddie, isn't injury prone, and the most important skill available.
