Not even close, Helleson was a second round pick that Avs fans considered a surefire NHL defender. Jeremie is a poor man's Noah Warren, unless his play has evolved by leaps and bounds in thr ECHL he's a contract slot and that's it.
Well, still. This “ we waste a contract slot “ when in reality, Gibson is the only other player we need a slot for( sorry guys were not trading and retaining on killorn) has been overblown. Cam out of town for a 2nd( that I would bet anything verbeek uses in a trade to help the team at some point )with meaningless retention, kids get to play now. Great news.

Between NYR not retaining on Trouba and us retaining on Cam, I sure hope Verbeek tidies up that part of his negotiation strategy moving forward.

Not really. It tends to mean a lot to the players.
2 different motivators, Rangers wanted to shed the whole deal, Ducks wanted to get the most value for Cam. Sure we could have taken a worse return for Cam with no retention but I don’t think anyone would be in favor of that

The 1000 games sentimentality thing doesn’t mean much to me anymore after Perry didn’t get there (I think he was 11 away when he got bought out). It sounds like Cam wanted to go and Pat obliged

Oh yeah I don't think it's a waste, it's moreso that Blues needed a spot and he was the guy. The reality is that getting a 2nd for Cam at this point is a fine return.

Vatrano, Dumoulin, and Gibson could still be traded this year, and two of those three could actually bring a useful return with retention, while the other will get what Fowler got with retention. A 2nd in two years may have reduced return that’d be useful significantly sooner.

We he dropped to us in his draft year in was ecstatic. Almost 1000 games later, one of the best picks in franchise history. He will be missed.

Also, f*** Shane doan.
My feelings exactly. When he got selected to play for the US at the Olympics, that was a peak feeling too. Always liked the guy. Kind of a shame that injury really harmed his offensive tenaciousness but he was a good and long serving soldier for this team.

At this stage, this was the right move and Verbeek did well to get some value for him with the way he's been playing. I'm still sad. He was really the last link to the era of this team's long run of continued success.

1k only matters if you learned math counting on your fingers and use base 10. You all shoulda counted fingers AND willies and used base 11, in which case he's nowhere near 1000 games.

BTW, Biakabutuka had an amazing 300+ yard rushing game in the NCAA years ago.

Trouba coming in, verbeek somewhat hinting that he sees him here long term. Our trouble scoring and not being able to bring in vets that want to play here past being over paid. No shot now that vatrano doesn’t resign(especially since he’s been very vocal about wanting to be here , you neeed guys like that) unless we trade him in a deal for an immediate upgrade and younger player

Yes, and the return on Vatrano will be larger with retention. Same with Dumoulin. And Gibson can’t be traded without it. Vatrano won’t likely get much of a contract from us unless his scoring touch returns, and if he really wants to play here, can return after a few months elsewhere - nobody is giving him 8 years.

I’m not remotely sold on Trouba being good enough to deserve a long contract, nor convinced that he will want to play here with our clueless coach.

That was my entire point. A late 2027 2nd is not exciting to me.

Listen, cam has been bad this year, really bad, BUT, the "Fowler sucks" brigade has been one of the most weirdly emotional, nonsensical (and loud) factions this board has ever seen. That finnish vatanen guy level weird.

Maybe chill on the "don't be emotional about cam leaving" bits, that's hysterically unself-aware.
Idk about that.

I have no clue why anyone would expect to be “excited” by the return for Fowler

Idk how to feel about it. Obviously time to move on, but the pick is as meh as meh gets, and we retained a lot.

Considering the NTC it’s pretty good though.

It depends ... he's already forced a trade off one team and tried to block a trade from his 2nd team because of his wife's career needs. If she gets a gig in SoCal, it would not be out of the realm of possibility that he will take less than he otherwise would to play for the Ducks, as he clearly prioritizes her ambitions when it comes to his own career decisions (and let's be real, she's got a lot more time left on her career than he does).

In his case I don't think we're bidding against the whole league like we usually are.

They got positive value for a guy who was actively complicating things for the team and rapidly declining, the only way you can complain about this is if you were attached to the idea of Fowler or sentimental things like the 1K games mark.
There are going to be people who are sad about a guy who played 1000 games here leaving. Asking them to not feel that way is really odd.

In swapping his AAV for Trouba's plus retention, and the likely departure of Dumoulin too, we're really just barely keeping up with the rising cap at this point, no? No one talks about the cap crunch at the bottom for the cap floor teams, but it does exist.
