An aging Bob Probert beating a prime Brashear

That one was a fun watch , thanks for sharing!

Probert was always one of my favorite enforcers. I would have loved to seen him in the orange and black in his heyday.

R.I.P. BP!

Probert early. Brashear late.
Win Probie, but definitely not a whooping or anything.

Probert is one of my favorites...but it means little to judge a fight simply by how the beginning, doesn't it? There were s lot of fights where a prime Probert started off poorly, but by fights end, the tablles had turned.

Brashears style and personality made him hard to like but he was a great fighter also.

I never said Probert won only because of the beginning of the fight. I'm saying that the first flurry is the main reason he won the fight and where he did the most damage. Brashear was way behind on the scorecards after the first half of the fight, and in my opinion, he didn't make up any ground in the second half of the fight. It may have looked impressive that Brashear fought back, but in terms of damage done, Probert gets a clear victory.

Yeah, Brashear beat Probert in this one.

That was the last fight they had, and Probert was 36 or 37 at the time. Probert faired pretty well against Brashear for being out of his prime. There are a couple debatable fights in the series, but Probert notched 2 or 3 wins against a prime Brashear.

Probert was always one of my favorites and I could never stand Brashear, I give him credit he didn't take many clean losses but I could just never stand his style of fighting.

Yes, I'd agree with that. Most of their fights happened outside of Probie's prime, and in Brashears...and Probie still acquitted himself better than most.

Probert and Kocur were so entertaining to watch. Glad to have had them with the Wings!

I could watch him take Huggy Bear out for hours and hours. I hate Brashear with my entire being.

Not to mention that Probie was from an era where they didn't train specifically for fighting.
In his book, his wife Dani said the only fight Probert every 'prepared' for was the rematch with Domi.

Brashear was part of a generation of goons that did a lot of offseason training in boxing and MMA gyms and prepared for a season like a boxer would a championship fight.

I can only imagine how much tougher Probie would have been if he had done the same in his prime.
Dude was just a straight-up beast when it came to throwing down.

I kind of feel bad for him though. He never wanted to be a fighter (not sure any of them do, though).
Prior to getting drafted into the OHL, he was the best player on his Midget team and won MVP during a Vancouver tournament featuring the best Midgets players in Canada.
Then, I believe in one of his first 5 games, he KO's a guy in his first hockey fight ever.
Afterward, his coaches and teammates were all like "Do you know who you just KO'd". Probie had no idea the guy he just knocked cold was one of the toughest guys in the entire league.
But he liked the adrelelin rush he received from the bout and the reaction he got from the crowd.
After that, it didn't take him long to become the OHL's heavyweight champ.
But the man could still score.
He would be worth $7M a year in today's game. A guy that can score and beat the poop out of any player in the league?

You know it! Loved watching the Bash Brothers growing up. The Wings had some tough teams in the 80's. Probie, Kocur, "Dirty" Harrold Snepts, Gerard Gallant. Even Dave Barr could throw them pretty good.
Lots of fun.

BTW, I believe it was Brashear that said he couldn't believe how hard Kocur punched.
In their first fight, he said Kocur cracked his helmet. He wasn't sure what would have happened if he had landed that shot on his unprotected head and was very grateful he had a helmet on.

i still remember Troy Crowder beat him 2/3 times, miss the days of heavy weight fights that you knew were on the card that night

I to miss the occasional scrap. The game has changed and to a degree so have the fans. To many times the suits sit on their hands and you can hear a mouse fart. Four of us split two seats in the lower level at the Spectrum and my throat would be hoarse the next day from yelling.
