I see the standings mostly holding up except for one of Detroit/Buffalo/Ottawa overtaking Boston and Edmonton moving into a playoff spot over one of Calgary/LA.

Games like last night are classic Sabres- they actually outplayed the Wild and just got goalied. They’ve looked good lately, though (watch the 10 game losing streak commence).

I think that might be your playoff teams in the East, though I’m sure seeding will change. I guess Buffalo can make a run and overtake Boston, but I’m not so sure.

I definitely think Edmonton is in for any one of several of those current teams in the West.

Penguins are actually the worst team in the East, the only reason Montreal is below them is because of less games played, the Pens have the worst winning % in the East. 4th worst in the league, lol and honestly could be 3rd if Chicago wins their next 2 games.

There are two observations that I think might be correct:

1. The Jets will cool down...at 18-5, there's no team in the history of the NHL that wouldn't cool down from a start like that. But it also needs to be acknowledged that this year's Jets team is considerably better than last year's Jets team, and last year's Jets team finished fourth in the league, so barring injuries, it's ludicrous to think they'll finish lower than that this season.
2. I can't help but laugh at everyone who's surprised about Edmonton, as if this year is a fluke and last year's Stanley Cup final team is to be expected. I'd suggest that last year was the fluke. The Oilers are better than Calgary or Los Angeles, I think, but they're not a well put-together team, never have been, and have a lot of weaknesses. Too many people, including sports media, equate superstar players with superstar teams, whereas in reality that's very rarely the case.

Or the Oilers just are slow starters.

They've finished with 104 or more points in like 4 straight seasons (pro-rated in the Canadian division year, but same story).

They have more points at game 22 than last year's team (that team finished with 104 points) and the same number of points in the same number of games as the team from the year previous to that which finished with 109 points.

It just is what it is at this point, probably more related to goaltending than anything else.

Not saying they won’t cool down, but where were you in 2022-2023? Boston never cooled down until game 5 of the playoffs.

Sabres are ahead of Boston on P% which is how the American Thanksgiving standing stat is done anyways lol

That's the percentage I've heard quoted too (I think 78% was the number I've heard on pods and broadcasts). Not impossible but not encouraging either.

Actually it is. There are a group of people out there that just love the excitement of the whole thing for some reason. I have several friends who do it and its almost like a version of the Super Bowl for them. They all tend to be women and they get up at the butt crack of dawn to go. It' the craziest thing I've ever seen but they have a ball apparently.
