I think he gets the most out of his tools and that’s what makes him dangerous. How that translates into pro scoring remains to be seen. That’s where I tend to see Callahan in him.

On the surface, Callahan shouldn’t have posted the pro numbers he did. But he busted his ass. If Berard can do that, and add some strength to his speed, he could be someone who overachieves if he finds chemistry with the right linemates.
Callahan scored 50 goals in the O, he definitely had some skill

its not as if they have to have the local puck-drop be 7:30 because they want the live audience to be able to get there in time.
Because they only have 1 rink. The bronze medal game is at 6est and they give plenty of time between games in case it goes to OT. I'm not a fan of it either but it is what it is.

Well look, no one makes it to the NHL by being beer league equivalent. But Callahan wasn't a guy you looked at and proclaimed, "There's a skill package that's going to score at a 30 goal pace for a couple of years in the NHL."

Even the 50 goals he scored in the OHL was during his overage season as a 20/21 year old playing against, in some cases, kids who were 16.

Prior to that his OHL goal totals were strangely closer to what he'd do in the NHL, which is kind of illustrates just how remarkable his journey was.

Should thank Sather for that original six 'C' coz that moron didn't resign Jags.

Pretty much everyone who makes the NHL was a standout performer at the lower levels. Bottom six NHLers were not bottom six juniors — they were first line juniors who aren’t able to score at an elite level in the NHL. Brian Boyle and Morgan Barron are perfect examples. First line scorers in college who carved out (or likely will) nice NHL careers playing role player minutes.

So when I see a forward prospect not producing in the lower levels (for example Karl Henriksson), it becomes a major red flag for me. Some folks will say “it’s okay if he develops into a third or fourth line center.” I’m thinking that’s not even on the table until he starts scoring in the SHL.

he scored 50 as an overager which isn't super impressive or rare.

The 35 in 60 he had in Hartford however, was. He wasn't scoring his goals in the pros with skill though, he was very much a meat and potatoes player who got his goals by going to the paint.

he was a decently skilled player though, at his peak a solid 2nd line winger who could score in a number of ways, I remember him scoring a lot of pretty goals, displaying nice hands and some sick snipes.

His hands were abysmal lol. I'm guessing you're referring to the goal he scored against Buffalo in OT where he akwardly dangled a forward (Kaleta?)

His shot was okay though. He did have a few snipes that stand out in my mind (OT winner vs Detroit in 2012? The playoff spot clincher in 2013.) But still, he wasn't scoring regularly this way.

I mean, even Tanner Glass had a back hand snipe.

I mean his last career goal, he out-skated Ekblad, and made a backhander to fool the goaltender to score a SHG. :dunno:

He had done that several times in his career. That does require skill and not just sheer effort. But yeah he did get a lot of goals from getting in the dirty areas also.

Raty is the type of player who in a normal draft year, I'd be praying for in the mid-late teens.

This years draft blows so hes a lock for the top 5-10, but I like his all around game and spunk.

I wonder if the NHL is going with Raety as the spelling on his jersey
