As great as Berard looks, I think Schneider ends up the best value pick at 19. Vierling was also a tremendous selection.

This is my opinion as well. I think Stuetzle is going to end up being so much more impressive than Byfield. I think people are really just so jazzed about Byfield’s size and ability to impose his will on much smaller, weaker players that they’ve overlooked a fair amount of weaknesses to drool over the strengths. I’d bet Laf and Stuetzle are the two best forwards from this draft.

Sometime bigger players can take longer to develop. Think Keith Preimeau.

I’m not saying he won’t be a good player. I’m saying that at the time of draft he wasn’t even remotely close to the prospect Lafreniere is. The gap is much larger than what was discussed around draft time and passing on a player like Lafreniere because Byfield may develop well would have been insane. Also, I just personally would have drafted Stuetzle at 2 and Byfield at 3 because I think Stuetzle is a real stud (also not close to Laf) but I actually have a soft spot for Ottawa so them getting Stuetzle and Sanderson was fine with me. I hate the Kings so if Byfield turns out to be a good first liner but not a star, I’ll be fine with that.

skinner is an afterthought too, berard has shown he belongs, garand wont play a game and schnieder has played like 10 minutes before killing that kid haha
