Ha! Can you (or others) please expand upon this?

I’ve never seen him play and debbie fans around me swear he’s the second coming.

He is a living, breathing turn over machine who almost never gets his shot on net. He had a half dozen brutal turn overs last night, one of which resulted in the game winner against (his effort to get back and puck watch was pathetic, he plays like a Devil already.)

He had a solid first game against the US, but last night is closer to par for the course when it comes to him.

Shakir is purely tools, at this point. The toolbox is almost non-existent. He just does some really stupid things and handles the puck like a grenade.

I remember EP in their draft preview listed him in their "Do Not Draft" section. I thought that was over the top, but reinforces that there are a lot of people who really don't like him. He was one of the most polarizing players I was aware of in the draft.

I thought the third was a good spot for him.

Berard has wheels for days looks like a much better skater than Callahan and the motor doesn’t stop. We’ll see about the skill level translating but guys like this can make the nhl for sure.

Definitely a guy to watch again he and vierling to me are monster steals

Arguments re: Cuylle/Berard are similar to why I’m not remotely sold on Byfield.

Lafreniere dominated the WJC at 18 years and 2 months old. Byfield is on the 4th line and utterly pedestrian at 18 years and 4 months old this year and you can see why he may not translate at the NHL level. He tries to stick handle around guys while not moving his feet as if he’s playing a CHL game and doesn’t recognize opportunities his teammates present because his awareness isn’t elite. He’s not going to have a big enough tool box to maximize his tantalizing attributes.

If Byfeld's skating hard, there are few players that can stop him. Some games he's flying out there and it is sensational to watch. He tries to beat guys with the same set of moves, if they watch film on him and aren't afraid to initiate contact, you force him to battle and he's not winning the majority of those battles. To me that's what I see in him that needs to be improved upon. It's the kind of thing that leaves you wanting a little more. I totally get what you're saying. If he puts on another 15 pounds of muscle and becomes meaner out there, you have the guy people want to see.

Dude is in the Kreider realm when it comes to that size/speed quotient. But yeah, it's another situation where you want that big center with size to initiate more contact to drive towards a scoring opportunity. Lundell is nowhere close to being as fast, but you see him use his body to position the puck more deliberately and create more chances for himself.

I hope he does not become a Nathan Gerbe. although would not mind a Yanne Gourde

I maintain Brisson was the pick, but it is what it is. Happy to have Schneider, as well.

Yeah, teams reaching always throws a wrench in the works. If we didn't win the lotteries in 2019 and 2020 we might be looking at Zegras, Höglander*, Lundell and Brisson. Those are some great prospects to have but it's no Kakko/Lafreniere of course

*Gorton stated that winning the lottery made it easier to trade away the 20th overall pick for Jacob Trouba)

I think you're being very hard on Zucc here.

Lucas Raymond is hurt for Sweden. Wings should have kept him in Detroit. wasn't he expected to make the Wings this year?

Only if he is released by his team. I doubt Frölunda will let him go considering how important he is to their team.

Players under contract in Europe can't sign an ELC after Aug 15th unless they are released

Honestly, I'm not saying that Panarin or Zibanejad have more heart but a guy throwing his body around is seen like him having more heart by default than a skill guy. It makes no sense. Just because Cally didn't have the skill to play a strictly skill game and compensated by throwing his body around doesn't mean he should be by default considered a player that plays with more heart than a skill player.

Idk... playing hard and sacrificing your body on a consistent basis... even when your nearly always the smaller guy? If Kreider played like that he’d be an absolute monster.

I’m not saying he was at the top of list but he at least deserves consideration with the Girardi and Dubinsky of the world. Hank prob is tops to me anyway...
