Swayman, Vasilevsky, Shesterkin, all shitting the bed this year and/or recent playoffs. Gibson is still an anchor and Grubauer is a nightmare. Bobrovsky is meh at best, and Sorokin is underwhelming, as is non-4 Nations Bennington. Markstrom es no bueno anymore and neither is Merzlikins. The list goes on. Don't spend money on goalies. Only exception is Hellebuyck.

Vasilevskiy already won a couple so he's off the hook. Bobrovsky won but not with his original team on the big contract so it's kind of 50/50 but the Panthers and their fans don't care, I'm sure. Binnington won his Cup and the 4 Nations so it's not like he needs to prove that much more.

I'm gonna get a shitload of hate but Hellebuyck, aside from Vezina contention/wins, has won shit all. It's not his fault specifically, but it's not like the Jets have seen anything past the second round in this current iteration. I like what he brings skills/numbers-wise but I'm not pretending he's lifting teams to greatness yet either.

OP is all over the place. Exactly what else does a goalie need to do but win?

You have a case for Swayman and Shesterkin but Vasilevskiy is in Vezina contention, and his contract will look better and better as we see more insane contracts handed out to goalies in the coming years.

There is no such thing as a safe bet in goaltending. It’s the most difficult position in the league to remain consistent in.

The guys mentioned here are prone to off years but their track record still make them a worthy bet compared to those 5yr/$5M goalies who seem to always wear out their welcome.

Yeah Shesterkin's 2.93 and .906 looking great, 8 years at 11.5 doesn't even kick in until NEXT season when he will be turning 30. (Shitting the bed is extreme on OPs part but the gist of it is big contract goalies underperforming).

Vasilevskiy is pretty much unanimously considered the best goalie of his era/generation and most people in and around the game still consider him #1. 522 regular season games, 319 playoffs (edit: I am dumb) and here he is in 2025 competing for the Vezina again, following a year where he came off major surgery. Let's see how Igor and his contract look at that point.

The rangers are incompetent defensively.

Shesterkin has been elite this year, just like he has been every year and every playoffs.

He’s only played 112 playoff games…
319 playoff games is impossible for damn near anyone.

No he has not lol 5 goals in the first period to Buffalo. He looks like crap almost every 3rd game this year.

The landscape for goalies has simply changed dramatically. Skaters are faster, sticks are like slingshots, smaller goalie equipment, limit space for goalies to handle the puck behind the net. The league has done everything in their power to make like tough for goalies.

I don't know that we will ever see an era like the late 80s to early 2000s where we had so many guys who were dominant at that position for extended periods. It seems every year a few guys step up, a few guys take a step back, but we don't have the overall influx of skill that was there before.

In the end the best goalies will still be offered big contracts. Maybe not league max but between 32 teams and spending to the floor it's going to happen.

I completely misread what I was looking at and didn't realize how insane it was until I saw it typed out for me. I looked at the career win column thinking it was playoff games, yikes. Time for bed.

Why is Vasy on this list? I get that you put "and/or" recent playoff runs but then why isn't Hellebuyck on the list? Vasy had one down year and outside of that has been the most consistent goalie in the league along with Hellebuyck. It wouldn't make sense for either of them to be on this list.

Lol I'm pretty sure Panthers fans don't care how much money Bob gets at this point. He was one of the main pieces of their b2b finals and a cup run. If he puts another playoff performance like he did last two years I guess fans won't care even if he plays as a backup till retirement.
At the end of the day pinnacle of all stats and games played is winning SC and this is what Panthers did with Bob in net.
