What would the roster be like for Team Canada for all time players? Lets assume that the players on this list were in their "prime" of their career.

I will bite:

Lemieux Gretzky Howe
Hull Beliveau M. Richard
Messier Crosby Lindros
Clarke H. Richard Yzerman

Orr Bourque
Harvey Coffey
Potvin Shore

Roy
Plante

They would be unbeatable. Skill, power, nastiness. Lines are set up as I would have them. 99 and 66 were astounding in 1987. Add Howe and they are better. Line 2 is straight up goal scoring skill and size at centre in Beliveau. Line 3 is nasty and gritty. Line 4 is the shut down line.

God that is hard... my initial forward list was ~30... with about 20 centres!

Forwards:

Bobby Hull-Gretzky-Bossy
Crosby-Lemieux-Lafleur
Sakic-Howe-Richard
Clarke-Yzerman-Lindros
Messier

on the reserve list:

Francis
Esposito
Mikita
Shanahan
Gartner
Robataille
Neely

Was hard picking the centres... and hard to leave some of the last cuts along with other out, as can be seen went for a lot of centres! The last two lines I chose as they would be ******** to play against, rough, tough and nasty with skill in heaps. the first 2 lines would not stop scoring. The lack of amazing wingers surprised me actually.

Defence:

Potvin-Orr
Robinson-Bourque
Pronger-Coffey
MacInnes-Harvey

Niedermeyer, Pilote, Murphy, Park on standby.

There are so few righties it is unreal... Murphy and MacInnes are pretty much it... so I put Orr, Bourque, Harvey and Coffey in as all played RD at times or for most of their career.

Goalies:

Roy
Brodeur
Plante

Parent and Dryden on standby.

whew. this is pretty bang on. maybe get Joe Malone in there if you are really going for 'all time'. I get one of Roy or Brodeur instead of Hall or Plante, to recognize the 90s, perhaps the golden era of goaltending.

Gillies or Probert if you want some enforcement aside from Messier

howe could police some aswell, and if im not totally wrong, there's plenty of players here that will defend themselves and beat people up despite being superstars

Canada has so much depth that you can allow this

Eric Lindros - Bobby Clarke - Maurice Richard
Ted Lindsay - Mark Messier - Gordie Howe
Aurele Joliat - Newsy Lalonde - Punch Broadbent
Brendan Shanahan - Duke Keats - Nels Stewart

Spare: Frank Boucher

Sprague Cleghorn - Denis Potvin
Eddie Shore - Scott Stevens
Ken Reardon - Art Ross

Spare: Joe Hall

Patrick Roy
Billy Smith
Paddy Moran

I've got the meanest team with the most talent in the history of the game. All you guys' team would pee themselves when they go up against this team.

Though I have to wonder if they'll even last one game with international rules before being expelled.

Also, if the game gets too rough, I've got the most gentlemanly player in the game to diffuse the situation.

All that and no Lindros? Lol

Lemieux Gretzky Cook
Morenz Beliveau Howe
Messier Clarke Lindros
Sakic Crosby Richard
Mikita Yzerman

Bourque Orr
Savard Harvey
Potvin Pronger
Kelly Robinson

Roy
Plante
Brodeur

Hard to leave off Hull and Lafleur, but I have questions about how well they can play with other elite players, at least compared to other all time greats. Forward group may miss their speed.

interesting concept and certainly be tough to beat, but would they last 4 rounds of playoffs?

also, need Clarke Gilles in there somewhere.

Both a past their prime Hull (76 CC) and Lafleur (81 CC) had fantastic chemistry with their line mates. Hull led the 76 CC in goals I believe and Lafleur was tied for the lead for assists in the 81 CC.

Yeah, Hull is really difficult to overlook. He liked to dominate the puck, which isn't really necessary on a team like this, but his finishing would be so valuable. With Lafleur, I was never impressed with his international play. Even in 1981 he was only the third most effective forward on his line. He also thrived when he was able to control the puck, and on a team like this that just isn't realistic.

Forwards:
Messier-Gretzky-Howe
Bo. Hull-Lemieux-Richard
Esposito-Crosby-Bossy
Mikita-Beliveau-Lafleur
Backups: Sakic, Yzerman and Trottier
Defencemen:
Orr-Bourque
Niedermeyer-Coffey
Harvey-Robinson
Backups: Pronger, Potvin and Park
Goalies:
Sawchuk
Roy
Brodeur

The fact that players like Pronger, Sakic and Yzerman are potentially backups on any sort of squad speaks major volumes as to how loaded this team is
