as I've said in the previous Miller thread,
Kakko/Kravtsov + Schneider/Lundkvist + 20231st

J.T. Miller comes back to NYR with no extension in place however. We'll figure that out next summer and I think it's the proper upgrade over either Strome or Copp. It's a risk but I think even after giving up some of these assets the team is still vastly more solidified than during this past run. This version of Miller fixes a ton of holes and instantly does to this Rangers team what Kadri did with COL.
For the Rangers there will be "THE TRADE" either this summer, deadline, or next summer. It will happen eventually and it's probably going to end up being for either Patty Kane or Miller
If Miller was signed for say 3 more years. Sure, I'd consider it. There's no way we can afford the 8 mil cap hit that he'll be getting on his next contract

well the habs have actually won some of their own 👍
So you're mocking an '80 year old' (team president btw, young GM), but invoking Stanley Cups that, at most recent, occurred almost 30 years ago. K.
he won a fluke cup that he couldn’t sustain and won with two (inherited) franchise centres
You surely know how ridiculous it looks to try to hand wave away 3 Stanley Cups with 2 different franchises, right?

I mean shit, if you take away the two cups, the Hart Trophies, the Art Ross Trophies and all the Norrises, what did Bobby Orr ever do, right?

Who adds? Does an extension in place change the value and if so how much?

The more I think about it the more I can see the two European GM’s come together on a deal between Columbus and Vancouver. I just imagine their conversations will go well together and J.T was born technically in Ohio on the Pittsburgh boarder. Great fit and the assets are there.

Seems as though, according to HF, nobody wants Miller. If his value is that low, we might as well resign him.

Came here to repudiate the idiocy of the notion in this article:

The article admits due to cap it would be a super short term effective rental, likely a yr of JT.
I was a supporter of JT and appreciated his game while here and have famously railed against the Namest deal, which in a vacuum was obv a huge loser, and presum was Yzermann arm twisted and ostensibly would have nixed the McDonagh deal at last minute after NY backed itself into a corner. I wish him the best and if he and 'nucks feel it is time to move on,, hope it proceeds well for both if they go down that path.

But that said, dealing youth for age in general, setting aside specifics of the player values, is a huge NO as it would no ? shorten our window. Youth needed to manage/stay ahead of the cap = roster flexibility = depth. We see how important depth is. To its credit TB used high end def specialists to shut down Rangers top line, and lack of depth screwed us. [This was exacerbated by wrong decision of coach/braintrust to run w/more vets and less kids line; had NY listened to me and developed kids earlier/faster playing youth over vets, would be a dif picture.]

NY should not be dealing chytil + NIls L + a 1st esp for any player which = immediate consumption with no long term benefit due to salary fitting the cap

We need to do Lindgren [who we can replace innternally w/quality elc LDs] for cap free picks, then get sniper Vatrano extended 4 s 2.75, or 5 x 3m, in that area. Vat + Kravtsov finally here and add Othmann once he's ready is the ticket, remove excess vets + cap hit.

'the math does lie
reunion would otherwise be nice, but no.

It's amazing how little interest a 99 point center garners on HF.
It would be a completely different story if he wasn’t almost 30 & about to get a massive extension that most teams probably can’t afford.

Plus we keep saying 99 point center but we don’t know if he will hit that again. If I’m other teams I’m waiting until the TDL to see how he plays this season

I am sure they could make some cap maneuvering if they want to.

That's always easy to say here but a bot harder in reality.

I honestly don't think that people understand how many FAs there are and how little extra money right now.

I think he's nevertheless a Top 6, considering the points he put up and the fact that he is in his prime year

what this needs is another rumor saying whether or not there is a sign-and-trade aspect to this trade. That's something that needs the player on board with of course, and it changes the trade a lot.

If we are going as-is, just a pure rental, he would get a lot but similar to what Kuemper got for instance. So, a 1st and a good prospect (perhaps not a blue chip but close). Although perhaps more value than that, as I could see Miller having more trade suitors. But that's close.

(edit: then again, age affects forwards more so maybe just a 1st and good prospect)

His age doesn't matter. He is 29 and will be 30 NEXT March. If we trade him as a 29 year old, coming off 99 point season, putting up 2 solid seasons(inc one over a ppg in his first year here) as a 1 year rental, he is still worth 3 1sts easily. Retention adds to that.

The big question is, in years past a player can talk next contract July 1st as contracts go July 1 to June 30th. With this information, can an extension be discussed before the draft even happens(July 8th) or does that July 1st get pushed to July 13th? If not, then extension is not taken into his value before the draft, if we trade him after then it is. Obviously a trade with an extended Miller is worth an insane amount.

Can anyone answer the above question?

The teams that land Kadri and Miller are going to be very disappointed if the expectation is they will each replicate these seasons.

Miller has 3 top line production years in a row. Everything points to him putting up a PPG+ with what ever team he goes to. Naturally things like pp1 and top 6 minutes will be required for this. But no team is acquiring Miller(or Kadri) to improve their 3rd line and pp2.
