New Athletic Mock v2.0 is out, and the story hasn't changed... At 14 we have a choice between Helenius, MBN, Jiricek, and Solberg, and they have us taking Jiricek (which I still think is not as likely as Solberg if we go D)... DET takes Helenius, STL takes Solberg, and MBN falls to the Caps as another Leonard type.

If this is what we're seeing at 14, I'm guessing we go Solberg, DET takes MBN, STL takes Jiricek and Helenius amazingly falls to the Caps. But who tf knows. I do think The Athletic seems to be settled in their groove and probably won't change much from here. I would also rather see a mock purely from Pronman who has better insight than the other journalists/beat writers.
Where did Sennecke go? The more I read up on him and watch his highlights the more I like.

I eagerly anticipate when Pronman gets some actual info about who the Sharks are really considering at 14 instead of the Athletic writers just giving us Jiricek because we need D.
You will be waiting a while, I’d imagine. I do think Jiricek is a legit option for us just based on the level of talk around us and him.

Last two years I think reports came out like DAYS before the draft about our targets. With 4th overall, it was widely rumored it was Smith but that was week of when it was reported that Michkov wasn’t interviewing with all teams. With the year before I remember either day of or day before, Sheng posted our list was Mintyukov, Korchinski, Kasper, Savoie (I think that was the list) who all went the picks before us.

Agreed.

Jux, I value your insight and opinion. If you got to make pick #14 for the Sharks today, who would your choice be between Helenius, MBN, Solberg, and Jiricek?

Right, I expect we won’t have any real idea who the Sharks are actually considering until the week of the draft, if at all. I just want to consume more draft content right now, is that too much to ask???

I would take them in the order you’ve listed them. Helenius isn’t the best fit for our org but I think he’s a cut above the rest of them as players. I would be reasonably happy with MBN (mostly because he’s a great fit for the org), intrigued by Solberg, and slightly concerned with Jiricek, though it wouldn’t be “Timo Meier over Matt Barzal” levels of rage.

You don’t have to flatter me to get my opinion.

We have the fake combine next week at least! Think it starts Tuesday.

Thanks for your insight! It would be hard for me to pass on MBN because I think he’s such an ideal fit. That being said, I agree with you that Helenius should probably be the pick in that scenario given his pedigree.

I was so disappointed by that Timo pick. I thought it was between Barzal and Rantanen. 😭

Honestly it is getting old to read the same thing. Jiricek isn’t even the D I would choose in that spot.

At this point it’s them being lazy and just copy pasting stories.

Gonna take a stab at a mock up to 14 based on some outside the box thinking about what teams might overthink they need.

  1. Celebrini - SJS - obvious
  2. Buium - CHI - They'll want a elite skating Dman to be a running mate with Bedard
  3. Demidov - ANA - I assume they'll trade Zegras, here's his replacement
  4. Lindstrom - CBJ - Heartland fans will salivate over a giant 1-2 punch of Fantilli and Lindstrom
  5. Iginla - CGY (trade with MTL) - Obvious
  6. Levshunov - UTH - Dest D available
  7. Silayev - OTT - He's giant and Ottawa clearly values size with their giant team
  8. Dickinson - SEA - Best D available
  9. Catton - MTL - After the Reinbacher pick, they're going offense
  10. Parekh - CGY (Trade with NJD for Markstrom) - Best D available
  11. Sennecke - BUF - His name sounds like it's from the region. That will trick their stupid front office
  12. Helenius - SJS (Trade with PHI for Peterson) - Another all-around player responsible player, something Grier values
  13. MBN - MIN - His name sounds like it's from the region, plus he's probably the BPA there
  14. Eiserman - PHI - Replacement for Cutter

This is.....plausible....hmmm, even the explanations are plausible (i.e. something I would come up with)

Although early trades are unlikely, it's in the realm of possibility. I like it!
That said, BUF really needs C (Helenius) or RD (Yakemchuk).

This looks very similar to how the draft actually can go, there is no clear picks other than Celebrini and I would even add couple of small ''reaches'' in that 8-12 area, like Greentree or Jiricek at like 9 and 10 pick (no reason why, but it always seems like there is couple of those in pretty high spots) Hopefully Sharks don't take a ''reach'' at #14 or in this universe at #12.

Anyone speak Norwegian? No mention of San Jose, mentions Chicago twice. (Link to my post in this thread, with a link in there to a short Tiktok interview with MBN).

EDIT: with some light translation on Google, he said he thinks he'll be drafted by Chicago, Detroit, or Calgary, his favorite team is Washington because of Ovie, and that he would love to be drafted by an original 6 team, so maybe Chicago because he's talked to them a lot.

I'm starting to really want MBN or Sojlberg at 14. Neither will be huge game breakers...but they'll make us way harder to play against. Celebrini and Smith can hopefully get us to the playoffs once they develop in the league...we need players to win us some games in the playoffs too.
