Hobbs almost killed the big show, but they managed to get the spot done safely. Big Show can barely walk so it was nice to see him get in two of the matches big spots and be done

Swinging a bike around as a melee weapon was such a shitty idea. The risk reward skews so heavily in favor of risk that it’s just not worth it. That added nothing at all to the match.

A couple really killer looking table spots near the end at least

Overall, Aew is kind of a mess lately. The guys doing the work don’t look like they’re enjoying it any more. It all seems like a chore. Crowds are embarrassingly scarce (although they still have quality over quantity i guess), and there are zero signs of change.

Put me down for Ziggler as the free agent

The bike thing is because it's an iconic spot in the video game the entire match was built upon.

Am I the only person that actually thinks there is a lot of good shit happening on screen right now? lol I feel like the discourse over AEW has gotten even weirder then normal the last month or two. Like I didn't love last nights show honestly didn't even finish it....but there is way more good stuff then bad in AEW but I find the online discussion basically narrows in on and hammers the bad shit into submission at this point lol

I've not watched AEW since early 2022. I'm a WCW fan that gave up on wrestling in 2001. They lost me for a list of reasons

- Too much flippy high risk matches that don't mean anything
- losing Cody, he was my favorite
- reliance on the audience being plugged into the IWC. I don't know anything about or care about New Japan
- lack of storytelling, I don't care about a match if there's no stakes or reason for it to happen
- the women's division not getting enough focus to develop strong characters
- general pandering to the type of viewer who reads the wrestling observer

I wish it wasn't the case. I was a weekly viewer from 2019-early 2022 but once I realized it was just background noise I quit caring.

Yeah, I'm with ya. These are the main reasons for me finding it tough to fully get into AEW. I'm more of a casual fan and have no idea who the New Japan guys are nor what the dirt sheets are saying. I also have trouble with the fact that 1/3 of their roster has a belt. No point in having one.

Plus, I'll add that, like WCW and TNA, they're just getting older, plucking attitude era guys. I do like some of the talent their few homegrown wrestlers have, and there are some decent storylines, but overall, not enough to make it must-see.
They were way, way more reliant on observer readers and IWC back when they started than they are now.

Doesn't seem like it. Aren't a couple of their main PPV's based on wrestling New Japan (or whatever) wrestlers. Didn't I just see a post discussing Danielson against some New Japan wrestler just yesterday?

From a much more casual fan...the "narrowing in" is on some basic, high-level stuff. Like booking, relying on old wrestlers, and watered down championships. It's certainly not ALL bad. They do have some great stuff going (from what I've watched), and it's fantastic finally having some good competition for WWE, but it certainly has its flaws.

So basically it's an inside joke that you have no idea about if you didn't play the game?

The hitting people with the bike didn't bother me so much as the part before when Ibushi rode the bike and "Hit" guys with a painted paper towel roll so softly that it wouldn't have broken an already cracked egg

New Japan, yes, because they since made a working deal. They didn’t have that when they started, but how else were you supposed to know anyone or what they were doing besides Jericho and Moxley unless you were scouring the internet and/or reading reports from people like Dave?

That makes sense, but it still flew miles over my head. I suppose the Chinese take out menus are also part of a game?

Risk reward is still in favor of bad things

There’s plenty of good. The wrestling is still top tier. It just takes a lot to sit through a lot of the bullshit and get to the wrestling when the writing is as bad as it’s been. They gotta slow it down a bit. Cut the hokey stuff. Focus on a couple meaningful blood feuds

Yeah the good far outweighs the bad. I feel like people are so insistent to find the flaws in AEW. It's one thing to criticize what you don't like, it's another to hone in on the one dicey part of the show and focus on that. And I know I've said this a thousand times, but people care too much about business, ratings, and sales or whatever way too much for people who don't have any stock in the company lol.

It's the way of the internet though. Go onto any video game forum and it's mostly criticism and Dear John letters about why they hate the game.

Exactly. That's the point. As a causal fan who can only catch a show once in a while, I have no idea who the international wrestlers nor what any dirt sheet is saying.

But you know who at least most of the people are, and they’re going to tell you what you’re otherwise supposed to know. That’s not the same as it was in 2019, where you didn’t know hardly anybody unless you were going out of your way to find it.

I guess, but PPV's like Forbidden Door mostly means nothing to me if I have no idea who half the card is. There's rarely any build up from a story standpoint. I'm expected to know who the other guy is without any story. Looked like big news having Danielson wrestling some guy I don't know. That all being said, I am a casual fan. Maybe more people know these guys than I'm giving credit for?? No idea.

Eh I feel like they often treat viewers like they watch every episode of ROH/AEW and just assume you know who a lot of these guys are, and combine that with the guys from Japan and 400 different factions it can be hard to tell or remember who is who and who is on which side

Excalibur being a spaz most of the time and talking a thousand miles an hour doesnt help either

Some of them do. I don’t watch, but ROH isn’t a different universe, either.

I concur for the most part. I barely know most of them as well. I try to just enjoy the matches because they're typically great or at least very good. And I learn new people to watch

I enjoy that Tony is basically a fan like us and wants to put on good matches and shows...I feel like he does need to do better on stories and why we should care about the matches, but just to watch them, I enjoy it.

The MJF story is fun, leaves so much open to what can happen, at least there's one good storyline and shows he can do it when he needs to
