What’s up with this? They let him cut that promo and that’s it for him? What’s the end game here?

No one seems to know. Is he holding out? Did they purposefully cool this off because Punk got hurt and they didn't have a back up plan?

There is some big plan and it involves keeping him home for 8 weeks?

Who knows.

I think the Punk injury was the catalyst for a payoff I’m unsure of. Like I’m not sure Punk/MJF was their next program, but I think Punk being out gave them more options in keeping MJF out to let people overthink it all.

And I’m also not saying I think that makes any sense at all. I dunno.

Yeah I wasn't sure of running MJF/Punk back this soon, but what else could they do with him after that besides a title feud? Plus it seemed too easy a call back to the Summer of Punk in reverse.

Idk I am confused by all of this

Maybe the plan was to take a red hot guy and screw it up somehow so everybody either forgets about him or is just confused

I figured they could get another month out of punk and hangman while the next story started to creep in

I have doubts they were going to give Hangman another month in any circumstance with how quickly they pushed him down the card since he lost.
Yeah I dunno, it’s hard to know when punk’s first match as champ was a buddy tag with ftr. No idea whether hangman would be written to go after a rematch had punk not gotten hurt five minutes in to his reign.

MJF had his ass kicked by Wardlow. They weren’t going back to Punk/MJF. I do think Hangman would’ve gotten a rematch but they were doing Forbidden Door so it wouldn’t have been the next match. I’m guessing All Out was going to be Mox and Punk, which is a reason why they went with Mox for the interim title. MJF and Danielson feels like something they’d want to do.

Saw this on fb. Thoughts?

I mean can't almost all of those in some way be attributed to someone involved with the angle being injured? I am assuming that is a quote from Meltzer he has had some odd takes on AEW lately. Like when at any point in AEW's run could they have given WWE a run for their money? That is just talking out your ass right there.

Which of the examples include someone getting hurt?

Putting Sammy back with Jericho was stupid. Tay and him should be their own thing, they draw enough heat to be.

Bringing the trios championship and turning the Bucks babyface before they put FTR over for the belts is also bad booking. You could run the trios angle for the next PPV cycle and lose nothing.

The MJF situation, it is not on booking, but it is also not an injury.

I mean, I love AEW and it is entertaining pretty much every week, but the booking strategy is sometimes pretty bad. Matches on TV are mostly always good. Each show is enjoyable. Some stories are very well done (Hangman's journeyt to the title, for example). However, the flaws in the overall booking are easy to see and they did miss a few opportunities.

I guess it is easy to say in hindsight. Anyway, all that matters to me is that I am being entertained every week. The flaws are what they are and they are not driving me away from the product.

There were weeks AEW was close to beating Raw in the demo. AEW is not as hot as they were obviously but they’ve also been without Kenny, Punk, and for a while, Danielson.

Sammy has been going back and forth to Brazil to be with Tay’s family. He was there for 2 or 3 weeks earlier in the summer and now they just got married and I imagine went on their honeymoon.

I think 2 things have happened, one being that we are past the point of what AEW originally planned for with what was planned from their inception on the main event level. Moxley fell into their lap, but Tony always had a vision that ended with Hangman being the champion and the top face in the company, which he was briefly, but ultimately, you had bigger names around. However it’s sort of like when you have an author or screenwriter or even songwriter and/or act who had great success with their first one or two albums, you’re sharing the material that you’ve waited to tell for your whole life. You get to #3 and #4 and you have to produce new material, and even though you have the record deal that gives you the world in your hands, it’s almost like there’s too much to know what to do with it all.

That kind of goes into the next one, which is that Ring of Honor is too much and they don’t know what to do with it. They either need to get a TV deal or make it a development territory. And Tony needs to let someone else book it. It’s also confusing to the audience that you have a different brand on the same show. there’s not as much to differentiate from it, and now you have all these other titles that seem like they are supposed to be on the same level. The AEW brand should be the most important thing on AEW television. With 2 brands, that’s double the things that are important and when everything is important then nothing is important enough.

One of the FTR guys blew his shoulder out like a month ago. Sammy had go away heat, I don't care how he is booked he is just not Edge. In regards to the Bucks and FTR...that match will literally always be in your back pocket. FTR doesn't need to be put over they are arguably the most over act in the entire company and the Bucks turning face and the trios belt is presumably part of Omega's return. I am definitely not trying to say it is perfect but my main point is even IF Tony was a perfect booker(which is impossible lol) they wouldn't like be beating WWE or something.
