id love if Lafy turned into Owen Nolan, a physical skilled power winger is what this team can use. I did think Lafy would be more physical, hopefully he can add some spunk into his game.

i anticipate Laf being a better passer than Nolan but, yeah, he had a nice career. So long as we didn’t miss out on who went #5 in that draft (Jagr) i’d be thrilled with a Nolan. Nolan was a tough SOB. He and Tkachuk seemed to have more in common imo.

and you can add Roenick who was also a tough SOB who I wanted as a NYR. sadly he decided on the Flyers. he was another awesome player.

I see Laf being more of a Zetterberg (unlikely to develop his two-way game to that extent). Zetterberg was “tough” in his own way, definitely a warrior who player with an edge sometimes, but averaged like 50-60 hits per year, while having excellent offensive talent. I think Laf has a longer, more consistent peak than Zetterberg, who started late but still managed 960 points in 1082 games. He was essentially a 70-90 point player for about 6-7 years with a few more point per game seasons that were cut short by injuries. I think when Laf finds his confidence and man strength he could be a very similar player, albeit not a Selke candidate.

You can hate on the guy for lots of reasons but this is true. JR was a beast and definitely played his butt off. Tons of heart even when his skills declined.
I don’t know if Lafreniere is as pugnacious as JR was. Right now, I see a more offensive, less defensive Bergeron (albeit on wing). Though the hatred of loosing is clearly right there. One thing for sure, it will be fun to watch the kind of player that ultimately develops.

That’s where I was going with Zetterberg who was more of LW and sometimes center.

I don't know if it's a good comparison yet, too small a sample size, but if JR ends up being a comparable I'm a happy camper. Just agreeing with the guy I quoted.

We've reached the point where we're criticizing Laf's offseason training now?

We weren't due for this for at least another 15 games.
No. If a 1st overall pick like him isn't producing 15 games in, something is very wrong. 6 is understandable if not a little late. Not 50 goals but around .5 PPG at least.

JR was a rookie under Keenan who basically said if he didnt hit someone he would never see the ice or get dressed again.

The Laf’s prayer:

Our father, who art Lafresque... tally in thy name. Thy first goal come, thy will be done, in New York as it was in Buffalo. Give us this day some points with Bread, and forgive us our over reactions, as we never forgive coach Quinn. And lead us not to a loss, but deliver us from the lottery, for thine is the talent, the power and the glory. Forever and ever, LGR.

I feel like dealing in absolutes when discussing any player or approach, especially during the current global situation, is probably a recipe for frustration as well as inaccurate conclusions.

I think your an abslute trash if you critisize Lafrenière now, he's 19 years old, Jack hugues didnt deserve this treatment in New jersey? so why here?

This team still is in reconstruction, and your helpless words wont make a différence
he started on the first line, without even playing for 10 months hockey.

Our fan base is extremely impatient and neurotic. They want him and Kakko to be superstars this very instant lol. I’ve been impressed with the kid. The poor kid has been very unlucky. He could easily have 3-4 goals but has been a bit snakebitten. People just gotta learn to be patient and not just jump to criticism all the time

IMO Laf - Chytil - KK would be going by now if they had stayed together. Maybe they try it again once Chytil is back.

His floor obviously looks really high. He's a dog on the forecheck. He's always making the right reads as F3 and filling in for his pinching dman. He's broken up a lot of plays in the offensive zone with his anticipation.

And the high-end offensive flashes are there. I'm not concerned in the slightest.

Only the Situ deal in absolutes.

Yeah, I'm not a leader or even a part of the crusade against him, I just saw someone mention "in 15 games." If he hadn't scored in 15 games, it'd be bad... agreed?
