Not sure why it's so hard for people to accept that he has been a bit disappointing so far but people still have plenty of faith in him to become great. It's like it's one or the other and nobody understands anything
Just look at #24. Things are changing quickly. At some point the speed and physicality of the NHL game is mastered and then it's about talent.

The entire offense just looks like warmed over crap.

Scoring 2 goals total in the past 2 games. Yuck.

It's obviously way more fun to lose 4-3. People are frustrated and on edge (no pun intended).

It really is such a weird season because in addition to what we can see, when you look at some of the underlying numbers, not only should they be scoring more, they should be winning more too.

Here's just one example:

Honestly, it's such a weird, weird, weird start to the season.

Just those three examples there would have the Rangers owning 7 wins and currently sitting in a playoff spot.

It's this weird Twilight Zone where the Rangers haven't won games they really should have, and guys don't have numbers to show for points they should have.

Despite the opinion that this team has played like shit, it actually played pretty well, results notwithstanding.

Players snake bitten, goaltending meh, and they've given up a ton of flukey ass goals.

I will say, I don't love expected goals for vs. against. I think real goals impact team's strategies and if goals went in as "expected" that may have changed the strategy and may have changed the outcome.

12 games 1 goal..no assists. At a certain point, doubt and frustration can be a huge factor....its up to the person how its handled..not coaching persay.

It really is. I’ve been watching this team get owned every night while racking up wins for like...yep 10 years now.

Yea, like any stat has potential flaws like this. I struggle with the idea that only 5v5 is usually talked about...in a low scoring sport like hockey, consistent special teams advantage/disadvantage is also really really important. If a player is mediocre 5v5 but amazing on the PP, that matters. I get that for player comparability across the entire roster 5v5 makes sense.

IMO though expected goals is a huge improvement over Corsi which just is essentially a proxy for possession...and it is pretty intuitive that all possession / SATs are not created equal from a quality standpoint. In that regard xGF/GA really are a huge step forward.

Now is expected goals a better predictor of winning to a statistically significant degree? I don’t know I haven’t done or seen the analysis. But it checks a lot of boxes intuitively.

I barely made it through 2 pages of the PGT last night...I feel like I'm watching a different team than most people here.

It stinks that he doesn’t have more points to show for his play but he’s playing mostly well imo. The folks saying he looks like Kakko did last year are out to lunch imo.

I’d say (performance wise) his worst this season so far is at the very least on par with Kakko’s best last season

The points will come when the team breaks their scoring funk & when Chytil comes back and he doesn’t have to play with offensive wormhole Brett Howden anymore.

I think you have to have him on LW, and give him a RH passing option. That play he made with Strome... that's the first overall pick. It's an easier pass in today's game for high skilled players, and if you look at what a team like MTL is doing with their RH shots as finishers... that's having a lot of success. This guy is a playmaker first and foremost. See the Kucherov-Point combo for example. Mathews/Marner. Yammamoto/Draisaitl. etc.

That being said, despite the offense, I haven't seen Alexis make a mistake other than have a bad bounce on his stick. Always finishes his shifts in the right place and finishes them out strong. I'm not panicking in the least bit. People forget that Stamkos started out the same way.

You are declaring yourself correct 12 games into his career.

That is the issue.

and I am someone who is not accepting all these excuses for Laf in this thread. He's been very dissapointing thus far. Doesn't mean he is a bust or not the best player from this class.

Correct about what? Do you not understand how take it or leave it works. And the only reason I brought it up is that everyone else seems to be freaking out. This has nothing to do with me, bud.

I was watching this crazy show called Deal or No Deal...The guy has an amount of money in a sealed briefcase and then he opens up other briefcases and then he gets offered money from the banker based on what values have been opened and he can either take the offer or leave it. So the donk contestant got a really good initial offer. One that was very reasonable. The host asked him a couple times "are you sure you aren't interested in the deal?" But he rejected it. He wanted to let it ride. And then he opened a few high value briefcases. Now he had more information. And now he was livid. The dude had a complete meltdown. He started blaming his wife for being bad luck. He blamed the fact that they didn't take that trip to the world juniors (weird, I know). So the host, all in good natured fun said, "hey man, do you have any regrets about not taking the banker's first offer?". And the contestant felt like the host was declaring himself right. In reality, the host was just hosting. He was just posing a fair question.

Right?

Even with the overreactions here no one is taking your stupid ass offer, bud. Its 12 games christ above, he'd have 3 assists the last 2 games if he didnt have to pass the puck to absolute brainlets who don't know how to shoot.

CSA should overlay a player shot chart, and make it interactive. Shouldn't be too difficult to pull of.

That will get you collective accountability on here. That game for Blackwood wasn't a difficult one for him.

It's one thing to have whipping boys based on opinions. It's another to have it based on data.

See this is what I dont understand. How is offering him becoming the third best player in the class an insulting offer? The only way it would be is if he is a 10000000% lock to be the best or second best player. Which means there shouldn't be any concerns about his point totals or who he's passing to or how much PP time he is getting. He's already locked up being among the top 2 best. Close this thread.

You said

"I offered you guys the third best player in the 2020 draft. Nobody bit. Anybody want to change their mind?"

"Keep up. Sometime after the draft I said take it or leave it...Laffy will end up being the 3rd best player from the draft class. I got unanimous 'leave it' responses."

Reads to me like you are calling people wrong for saying no.

Why are you still harping on about something that doesn't mean anything?
