Based on what? Lafreniere not being on the board enough or Kakko not having 8 goals at this point? There is more than enough progress with Kakko to be happy. And the circumstances surrounding how Lafreneire entered the league are completely unprecedented. And he has been on the receiving end of some poor puck luck. But I’m worried that they may be less than advertised which would be devastating.
Wait, wait. NOW you need to see more from Miller and Fox? Just when I thought that this could not possibly get more ridiculous.Making great plays for sure, but combined for 2 goals in 11 games, right? we simply need more.
Well said. I think this is exactly how I feel.I think I fall on both sides of the issue here.
While I think they are showing signs of development, I am still very disappointed in their lack of production.
Both are considered very good offensive players ready for the NHL and neither has stood out offensively....at all. and that's a concern. A legit concern.
That said, I am 1000% comfortable waiting for the development to continue. My only hope is that their offensive abilities are not being coached out of them in an effort to make them better 2-way players.

I've been creeping on these boards since sometime around 2007-2008, and I'm not sure if I remember there being a time when I've found it to be so draining to do so.
Maybe it's the current state of the world and the uncertainty that comes with that seeping into everything. Maybe there has been a drastic change in the posters on here over that timespan. Maybe I've personally just become more easily drained.
But Man, this should be one of the most positive, optimistic times in franchise history. And people are too impatient to enjoy it.
In a few years, Alf and Kakko are going to be monsters; in a decade they'll be coming out of their primes; in two decades we'll be wishing we could re-live their first couple years: just try to enjoy watching them grow and adapt, Christ.
(we could all handle it, we're not impatient, was the cry!).
No. No NHL coaches allow rookies and sophomores to play any way they feel like and outside the created structure.Wouldn't a coach want them to do what they do best, play balls to the wall offensively, score, gain confidence they absolutely can play at this level and THEN start having them build the rest of their game more and more?
They look nothing of the sort.We didn't draft them to be scared, timid and unsure about themselves offensively, we drafted them to be scoring studs. So why tf isn't that the primary focus right now?
The only coaches that are saying that are those that spend time on internet message boards.Right now if I'm an opposing coach I say "They're coached to play scared so they dont take risks offensively or use their skills to the best of their abilities. Press the shit out of them."
Or neither and we have to take a good hard look in the mirror and admit that our expectations were unfair and too high. Couldn't be that, now could it?So it's either we're coaching these guys horribly or they just suck way worse than anyone thought coming into their first few years...or both
Maybe it is just more of a bit of a chicken little thing? This is less about patience and more about blind optimism though.
Maybe he scores against a good team since he hasn't against the mediocre teams?!
We're still in that phase we go through every season where we think Buffalo doesn't suck for some reason.Buffalo...
They do suck. They won't make the playoffs againWe're still in that phase we go through every season where we think Buffalo doesn't suck for some reason.
We're still in that phase we go through every season where we think Buffalo doesn't suck for some reason.
Hopefully next time we win the lottery the prospect we draft plays the exact right number of games prior to the season so he doesn’t totally stink it up out there for once.Your posts are more about blind optimism though. I don't see most people being impatient. I see most people bringing up legitimate concerns.
To ignore how offensively disappointing Kakko AND Laf have been? Now if you want to say "Hey they're still so insanely young. They def fell short of expectation so far offensively but I'm not worried" that makes sense. To start this "LOL NYR fans so impatient!" stuff? Don't agree with that. Especially when there are legitimate concerns revolving around Quinn. Bad coaching can hurt a player's development. I still remember Barry melrose idiotically f***ing with rookie Stamkos.
Last year the excuse was kakko played too much hockey. Now it's Laf played not enough hockey. While the impatience can be eye rolling so can literal opposing hand wave explanations. (It IS possible for both to be true btw. I hate that I have to write this because someone will purposely ignore the actual point if I dont) This franchise has had what, one single drafted F be an all star in its entire history? How could people NOT be at least a little concerned by what he haven't seen offensively right now?
If you had to make me place a bet, I'd bet
1) We overestimated Kakko offensively bc the finnish hype train is just ludicrous
2)Laf is going to explode in the next year or two.
Not to mention, if they're not doing that bad why on earth do you GAF if other people are disappointed when posting? If I see them doing well I couldnt care less what HF NYR has to say, I'd be through the roof. So if they're doing well in your eyes, what's the problem? Why aren't you just here saying things like, "Omg did you see the way Laf broke up that play, got the puck in deep, maintained possession and got a great chance?"
If things are way better than what everyone else is posting then you should easily be able to find examples like that to bring up
People are bringing up legitimate concerns about Lafreniere and Kakko and people keep responding with "oh stop it, you're just impatient" and all this other stuff. Why are people refusing to acknowledge that both guys haven't shown any kind of offensive ability? Everybody has plenty of patience but it would be nice to see these guys take over offensively once in a while
I don't care about stats but why is it a crime to ask for some offensive flashes from both guys? Maybe once this season we can see why we picked Lafreniere 1st? Or something that says "yeah, that's why Kakko is #2 overall". Why does it have to be one or the other? I'm patient and i think both guys will be very good but why can't i ask for more offensive plays from them? What would be an acceptable stat line for you for both players 10 games into the season?
If you have not seen that, then you are watching a different Rangers team than most.I don't care about stats but why is it a crime to ask for some offensive flashes from both guys?
Rangers are only 26.9 Canadian.....according to Quant Hockey .We seem to do well with Americans. Callahan, Kreider, Miller, Fox ... it’s almost uncanny. At least when you compare to our fortunes with other nationalities and given that about 50% of the league is Canadian.

I thought he played quite well and was very noticeable for the most part...he was at least into it physically . One bad drop pass....that will happen . I was looking today and his junior center is a big boy and a Center drafted by the Bruins and his winger was drafted by the Flames...and he had a great junior season despite missing much of it . Will be interesting to see how they develop or if they make the NHLLaf lead all players in last nights game with FIVE hits
