Famous in the past, Russian hockey player Alexei Yashin said that he will combine two positions in the Russian Olympic hockey teams. On the men's team, he will take a job as one of the coaches on the coaching staff, and will still hold the general manager position on the woman's squad.*Yashin was included to the coaching staff, during the main Russian national team training camp in Sochi, where Alexei flew with the team.* "I was invited to take the job as one of the coaches by the men's team general manager Alexei Kasatonov"- said Alexei Yashin. Since yesterday, when the Sochi Olympic camp has began, I am an assistant of Alexei Kasatonov. I do not yet have so far any concrete responsibilities in the process. Obviously first of all I will be watching our guys in the NHL - will go there, to communicate and to analyze. And then - I will be helping in everything. "*"But on the women's team I did not give it up, and I will continue to serve as a general manager - continued Alexei Yashin. - I am confident that the combination of my two jobs will not create any problems. Though of course I need to set up a better schedule for myself."* Yashin played on the Russian team from 1993 to 2006, winning the World Cup in 1993 and the "silver" in Olympics of 1998. Alexei is one of the most successful Russian players in NHL history

Alexei Yashin news is my favorite kind of news! I can't hold a grudge that long, plus he probably needs some money since his NAC deal fell through.

Is he seriously the GM for the National Women's program? That's awesome. Good for him.

Yeah, good for him.

To carry a discussion over from the BoH forum...does anyone think there's a chance in seven hells that Yashin would suit up for us in an alumni game (if such a game were to take place) for the Heritage Classic in Vancouver this year?

If you ask me, there's enough water under the bridge for both sides to be adults about it and allow Yashin to play, but I am neither Alexei Yashin nor Melnyk/Murray/Sens Management, so my opinion probably isn't worth much of a damn.

As an added benefit to enticing Yashin to play, the game isn't being held in in Ottawa, so the local boo-birds would probably be few and far between.

I would personally love to see that. Hope that water is indeed under the bridge. And if Vancouver could get Bure and Larionov to commit that would be a nice looking card to promote the event. (Of course there will be $$ to make: :yashin:)

Yeah, Yashin wasn't exactly the best guy to play with while he was with Ottawa but let's hope the team has put that behind them and we can allow Yashin to become a part of an alumni game should we do one.

Barasso wasn't here long enough. Surely he'd suit up for the Pens.

I don't know...I wouldn't mind seeing Mike Bales charge to the blue line and badly miss a poke check again.

You can't pay for that kind of entertainment.

As for Rhodes...looks like he's doing alright.

Daaaamn! Dusty done cleaned up. Married Cersei Lannister. (I know it's not the actual actress that plays Cersei Lannister)

Ya$hin was never Melnyk/Murrays problem, so no water damage to worry about! :sarcasm:

I vote for Ron Tugnutt in nets :yo:, and Brad Marsh on defense....

Oh ya, and Ya$hin up front!

Her name is Amanda Jahn, supposedly a Sports anchor. They live in Cleveland.

I think that poke check may have been Darren Madely the more I think about it.

tugger and rhodes for an alumni game would be sick.

kinda sounds like yashin is just being used as a figurehead coach for sochi due to his former fame.

Still being paid by the Islanders, lol.

Got over that debacle a long time ago. I'd love to see him suit up in an alumni game.

Went to the Sens skills competition waaaaay back around 95 or 96. Afterwards they had a fan signing event, Yashin was the first out to meet the fans and of the last to leave. I remember my dad pointing it out and contrasting to Daigle who popped his head out for about five minutes total. I've always thought Gandler was primarily to blame for the contract stuff.
