He's definitely at his best when he's paired with a higher skilled line driver (like Nylander during the play offs).

I'm fine with him staying in the top six for the foreseeable future

I am loving the make up of our top six right now. Buntings been awesome. I love 34 back with 88 and 91 with 16 again. Kerfoot has been excellent.

Our third line starts almost exclusively in the defensive zone and they’ve been getting good results.

Spezza’s been great. Simmonds has largely been good this year.

Ritchie though…. Dude has been a massive disappointment. Reminds me of Jimmy Vesey last year. He’s not hurting us, per se, but he’s just sorta *there* and we need more from him.

I’d like to see Joey Anderson or Kirill Semyonov get a shot in the lineup over Ritchie when it’s possible cap wise

I thought he had a much better game last night. Being on the 4th line is going to really lower his production offensively, but there was a couple shifts where him and Simmonds where both banging guys in the corners or behind the icing line, and really hounding the puck. Hope he can keep that up.

Going to be decisions to make when Mikheyev is ready to return.

Kapanen will likely get in the 5M range his next contract.

Lets see how this season goes. He may very well come back down to earth and show himself as a 40 pt player. I would bet the farm he isn't getting inked for 5m a year.

I like him but I'd have preferred to keep Kapanen, but there seems to have been some behind the scenes stuff there.

12-15 goals and 20-30 assists, he pitches in but doesn't break games open. He can hang in stretches with stars, but you want him on a sneaky or energy third line, and he's making 3.5 for one more year after this but owed very little real dollars.

He's very movable, but you won't get much back for him - maybe a 3rd or a 4th and a nothing prospect, and he has no appeal as a sweetener to a package.

Kerfoot and Ritchie gone, plus keeping only one of Engvall or Kase is over 7 in space.

I say about Kerfoot
Player is literally league average.
Contract stinks.
He’s paid league average? Brings it in the playoffs and has chemistry with some of our better players. Is a fill in middle 6c and fine top 6w…. What do you expect?

I'm yawning in sheer amazement.

I'm still f***ing salty that we don't have McCann but nothing wrong with Kerfoot this year.

Ritchie must stay. No more little 4th line guys. No more getting pushed around. Ritchie is worth the effort to get him engaged.

It was never McCann or Kerfoot unless you’re factoring the sweetener Seattle would’ve wanted to take Kerfoot. Hindsight being 20/20 going 7-3-1 and forcing Seattle into Engvall holl dermott might’ve been a good move too.
At that point they take Holl, you don’t sign Ritchie and replace Holl with Haakanpaa. The money works out with McCann and Hakanpaa in, even overpaying on the 1.5 he got in tax free Dallas to 1.6 (5m 3 years) it breaks even cap wise for the team.
It was never McCann/Kerfoot is was McCann/Holl from leafs perspective.

The coach has to be able to get him to do that though. He was at a consistent 30-40 point pace with two organizations over multiple seasons. It's there, but if Sheldon cant find it soon maybe he needs to be moved. It's a tradeable contract.

His speed and play making ability fits perfectly with a shooter like Nylander. Now let’s see how they do with Tavares who has started with a bang as well. Don’t mind the line shake up, but doubt Ritchie lasts long on the top line. Kase or Bunting will probably end up there again.

All Ritchie needs to do is go to the net and occupy a defender and if opportunity presents, pop in a rebound.
Ritchie has the ability to force the defending team to not cheat and leave him open in front of the net which creates more space for Matthews.
Kase had no chemistry on the top line, he kept skating in front of others, and getting in the way.
Matthews/Marner need a follower who knows its not their job to hang onto the puck or be the playmaker, their job is to hand off the puck and go to the net, and that should ideally suit Ritchie. ...but, he'll need to finish when he gets a chance, else, Simmonds deserves a shot up there, though he rags the puck more than he should.

He's been making the most out of his opportunities thus far. Providing solid play at both ends of the ice too.

Kerfoot is quietly going about his business since being moved into a top 6 LW role. His versatility to take over at 2C is huge in the event of an injury. We haven't missed Mikheyev at all. Engvall is almost the same player as Mikheyev, except Engvall is only really good after being benched. Those guys should be gone, and a chance given to Anderson or Semyonov
