He discussed certain players needing to produce but he didn't mention names.

Stop coaching Pat

Benoit Pouliot, Taylor Pyatt and Mats Zuccarello are on notice: If production doesn't increase, someone else can take their place.

Plenty of players are to blame for the Rangers' 1-4 start, but entering Wednesday night's division clash with the Capitals in Washington, D.C, coach Alain Vigneault said he'd have no problem featuring Tuesday call-up J.T. Miller prominently if the scoring drought continues on the wings.

"We have some players right now that are getting a real good opportunity to show what they can do," Vigneault said after Tuesday's practice in Greenburgh. "Some guys are getting top-six forward minutes, power play time, and some guys' production is not where it needs to be to stay in those spots (over) the long term. So they're aware of that. I don't have to mention any names. But (Miller) would be one of the possibilities of moving up there if people don't produce."

The Rangers aren't deep enough to have the luxury of benching players left and right, with Rick Nash (concussion) and Carl Hagelin (shoulder) sidelined. But Vigneault still has cause to demote his struggling forwards. Zuccarello (17:23), Pyatt (15:22) and Pouliot (13:49) rank third, seventh and eighth among Rangers forwards in minutes played, respectively. But they have combined for no points and a minus-11 rating through five games.

"I've got to produce," Zuccarello told the Daily News. "Of course, if you get a good chance and play a lot … you can be happy about a game and feel you played well, but you need to show it on the board, too. You need to produce."

How many more players can the Rangers waive with them clearing waivers? :sarcasm:

That's good that he is holding the players the accountable, but I am not sure that Zucc, Pouliot, and Pyatt are capable of producing all that much even if they are handed tons of ice time.

I'm getting flashbacks to 2009 when the likes of Higgins, Lisin, and Kotalik failed to produce.

Umm. Does he know that Pouliot and Pyatt have never really been known to produce? They've never been producers. Why is he so surprised?

Because whats he going to do? Bash his old kook of a GM when hes been on the job for just a couple months?

Not to mention the issue is about preventing goals, just as much as it is about scoring them at this point.

Halfman! Halfman! Halfman!

Stop calling Zuc, Frodo! Please, just the metaphoric. Frodo relied his entire trip on his friends (teammates) to do whatever was neccessary for him! And he had a ring, for which he had never done a thing. It was given to him as a (curse).

Tyrion Lannister aka. Halfman, was always spat upon by his family, and yet managed to build a reputation. And in the end (or at least so far) he has fought and won many wars and survived his deadly environment. He never gained anything though, yet.

So there is that ^^

I think Zuc should stay, and he'll bounces back.

Pyatt, I think we all agree. The only thing he could/should do, which is enforce, since he has no ability anywhere else, he doesn't do. He's overall weaksauce. And I think the league knows that, so there won't be any good return in that regard.

Pouliot is an enigma to me. What is his problem? It was usually late when I watched to games so far, haven't seen him a lot, he seemed invisible.

Great so if certain guys don't start producing JT Miller will take their spot. I'm so excited I might have to change my pants.

This keeps up then slats will be on notice. This could become one of those disastrous seasons that Dolan would have no choice but get rid of slats. Of course, if slats can pull an isiah Thomas and make a move on one of his assistants then that would help too.

This is happening already. Guess AV is going to have his shot at pairing down the roster to remove those he doesn't like right away.

The team can commit a mass suicide, leave a note behind that it was Sather's fault, and Dolan still wouldn't fire him. Hes not going to get fired at 70 years old.

Doesn't Sather realize hes not as sharp as he once was? That this is difficult stuff and hes doing a lazy job? That hes hurting the organization?

An absentee owner and a 70 year old GM with nothing to show for in a generation and an endless supply of pride/bravado is a bad combination.
