Well, that tells us nothing. I can only assume that it's a "definitive edition," like they did for the Age of Empires games, but with a different name for some reason.

Well, some good news, finally the end of the stream will update us on it and the mobile game:

We’re excited to announce the “New Year, New Age” livestream on February 23rd at 10:00 am PT (1:00 pm ET / 18:00 UTC).

  • Age of Empires 2, 3, 4 first
  • Age of Empires Mobile: TiMi Studios, the award-winning developer, will share a first-time look at gameplay and give us a behind the scenes look into their studio. The team will share their passion for Age of Empires and their vision to bring the franchise to new and existing fans alike.
  • Age of Mythology: Retold: The team will take us behind the curtain in the studio to show how they are developing this beloved game for a new, modern experience. Fans can expect a unique unveiling of a few mythological creatures that you won’t want to miss.

At work on my phone but they said coming in 2024.

Highlighted new engine, more detailed models and stuff. Basically sounds like it will be similar to the DEs of the previous games.

As much as I love Age of Empires, I didn't play Age of Mythology beyond the first few missions because the non-historical theme just didn't interest me. This'll be a good excuse and reason to finally really play it. It certainly looks nice.

Going back to comments I've made about AoE4, all I'm asking for to determine if I get this or not is if in single player I'll be able to pause and issue commands, like you've been able to in every other Ao game prior to AoE4.

The premium pack seems like a bit of a cash grab.

I get the RTS genre is in a bad place right now but pay extra for 7 days early access, an exclusive god and the legacy pack (basically the original game icons). I'll get it because I'm a huge fan of the franchise but yeah.

I guess you get expansion 1 and 2 whatever that is. Probably just a new civilization like reworked China and then pick another for 1 or 2. Maybe the value is there.

These types of games rarely ever transition well to consoles, unfortunately.

Now this is looking good!

So it’s an old school RTS game correct? Is it a remastered version or brand new game?

Never heard of Halo Wars?
That's a rare case of an RTS designed exclusively for consoles and controllers. Most RTS games were designed for mouse and keyboard, so it's probably trickier to port them. That said, the Xbox version of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition appears to have gotten glowing reviews, so there may be good reason to be hopeful that this game also transitions well.

It's a heavily remastered version of an old-school RTS from 2002, yes. It's just like the Definitive Editions of the three Age of Empires games that Microsoft released roughly 5 years ago, but now it's the spinoff game's turn.

Wow, been craving a good RTS game for a decade. Definitely likely to buy this on Stream. Never played the original.

It's ideal to play on PC but if someone only has an Xbox they'd get perfectly good value playing on Xbox. Multiplayer might be tough but AoM has a really good story campaign and in single player the 'Age of' games you can pause play but still scroll around and issue commands. Using this you can move away from a frantic high speed RTS which would be tough on controller to a slower paced strategic game that should work just fine.

That is assuming they don't take away that feature, which they did for AoE IV which has pissed me off to no end and has had me buy the game then refund 2 or 3 times.
