I know all the analytics set hate Ginning, but I like him. He reminds me of Grossmann, a big, steady presence. You need guys like this in your team, we'll see if he overcomes his weaknesses to be an NHL regular, or is just a call up.

According to Briere they intend to re-sign Johnson; filling the role Staal had last year. Seems to make sense with so many young defensemen.

Sanheim, Seeler, Drysdale, York, Zamula, Ginning, Ristolainen and Attard. There's no room for Johnson with all of those guys coming back. If any of them get put on waivers, they'll be taken by someone.

Because its easier to constantly shit on the franchise than offer anything constructive.
Ginning is an AHL level defender who in a pinch last year got lucky and wasn't a total disaster in the NHL. He's literally being paid the league minimum to be an emergency 7th defenseman. There's 0 downsides to this move.

There were rumors during the season of teams interested, it will be much easier now that it’s the offseason and everyone knows what the cap is, and he would have time to acclimate.
