Now that we know what he is, let's say there was a 95% chance he signed with the Rangers if we didn't trade for him. Would ANYONE not trade that 5% chance that he doesn't sign for two second rounders?

Also, leaving him in Harvard for another year would have pushed his development back. Fox didn't become the player he is now until he had to deal with NHL forecheckers on a nightly basis. The trade is still a steal even if he would likely sign with us for nothing a year later.

And here's part 2 on Fox. Wasn't familiar with Jack Han before this but wow, he is an impressive analyst and writer. Really enjoyable stuff.

Part 3 of this one in particular is so cool.

You know a player is really good when the author analyzing him starts talking about f***ing holograms.

Skill 3: Selling a Story
The mental act precedes the physical act.

Antoni Girod (French sports psychologist & author)

…in the AHL the players are all good. But in the NHL, it’s like you’re playing against holograms.

Connor Carrick (NHL defenseman)

I like that quote, though, “The mental act precedes the physical act.” That is extremely French and philosophical, but also describes Fox as a player nicely.

IQ is extremely underrated. Gretzky wasn’t the biggest or fastest or strongest. Gretzky was the smartest hockey player to ever play, and it turned very pedestrian physical attributes to the greatest player to ever play the game. Fox isn’t a physical specimen. He isn’t fast or strong. But he’s smart. Not as smart as Gretzky, but one of the smartest players in the game today, and it’s carrying him to greatness.

He definitely has 1D potential. I’m happy people are starting to see that and I’m happy that Fox looks this good already.

I don't know about that, but hes crazy composed and excellent with the puck on his stick.

I’m not saying he will be a 1D, but if he can really improve either his skating and/or strength, he can be. I mean, he doesn’t have any real weaknesses besides lack of strength. And he’s not the best skater but still pretty good, so I wouldn’t call it a weakness. Other than that, the truly elite hockey IQ and poise is what sets him apart. And the passing. Add in high-end skill, great defensive positioning and IQ, and an accurate shot, and we really have something here.

Looks like Buch89 was right lol
