If he stay about the same or improves until extended, and if the Rangers and he want to go long term including 3-4 UFA years, it's going to be expensive.
I figure they’ll work it out. Might have to do shorter-term deals though until the cap situation is better.

The biggest hurdle to overcome for Fox is his draft position. If Fox was a top-10 pick, he'd be in the conversation with Heiskanen, Dahlin and Hughes but he was a 3rd round pick so he has to "show he can do it for more than 1 season" or some other bullshit reason

These are the notable top 10 Norris finishes of of the past decade, 24 & under, not drafted in the 1st round. I’m not sure draft position has a huge impact.

Shayne Gostisbehere (24) - 10th - 17/18
John Klingberg (23) - 6th - 15/16
Oliver Ekman-Larson (24) - 9th - 15/16
Roman Josi (24) - 5th - 14/15
PK Subban (23) - 1st - 12/13
Kris Letang (24) - 9th - 11/12
Keith Yandle (24) - 5th - 10/11
Kris Letang (23) - 6th - 10/11

In total, there have been 28 total 24 & under top 10 Norris finishes in the past decade. 20/28 have been first rounders, which seems “as expected”.

On another note, here’s where it gets fun.
Fox is still 23. The only 23 years olds that have finished top 5 in Norris voting in the past decade are Karlsson, Pietrangelo, Subban, and Jones. It would be quite the company if our guy can pull it off.

Shayne Gostisbehere: 3rd full season
John Klingberg: 2nd full season
Oliver Ekman-Larson: 6th full season
Roman Josi: 4th full season
PK Subban: 3rd full season
Kris Letang: 4th full season
Keith Yandle: 4th full season

Aside from Klingberg, these players were all further in their NHL careers and had time to shake that label of a mid-round pick

I assume that Harvard is one of those teams that you can't make based on athletic skill alone.

That is probably (at least mostly) true.

I vaguely recall Chris Drury talking about wanting to follow his brother Ted to Harvard but not having the grades, but I could be wrong.

I don’t believe Ivy League schools give sports scholarships.

This is true. My understanding is that being an athletic recruit (especially a high profile hockey recruit like Fox was) will give you an advantage in admissions, but that you still have to earn your way in (i.e. you can maybe be at the lower end of the distribution of all SAT scores across your class but you have to be roughly in range and likely still clear a minimum threshold).
