Columbus will have a log jam at RHD next year when Jiricek joins the NHL club

it's possible Jarmo tries to move Peeke instead, but my guess is he tries to move Boqvist

2.6 with 2 years left on deal, then RFA

Jiricek
Blankenburg
Peeke
Gudbranson
Boqvist
Bjork

Ceulemans

How hes doing in his own end ? Does he project to be Barrie 2.0 ? Of hes improving in his zone ? Not comparing Barrie and Boqvist btw

It makes sense that the Jackets would move Boqvist instead of Peeke. If they want Jiricek and Werenski getting the PP minutes then Boqvist loses much of his role.

Habs would be interested. Not sure what the cost would be.

Every time I think of where Adam Boqvist might end up, I think of Montreal. He might break out with PP opportunity there.

I don't think we have a sense of the trade value. Might only be like a 2nd rounder or something. The contract is a little high for a very young D that hasn't figured it out yet. That will limit the market.

Some folks have been saying that he's been improving lately but the truth is that no one is watching Blue Jackets tank right now.

Last I checked the Barrie comparisons were apt. The D is bad, you just hope the offense makes up for it.

Montreal was the first team that came to my mind as well, however, I could see Columbus waiting until the offseason to make such a trade

For one, it gives Boqvist an opportunity to increase his trade value over the 2nd half of the season

And secondly, if Boqvist is traded it'll almost certainly be for a win-now player, and with Columbus currently sitting on the best odds of getting Bedard, this isn't the year to tack on a few extra meaningless wins over the 2nd half of the season

But, depending on Gavrikov's future with the team, maybe something like this would be of interest to both sides...

Blue Jackets <-- Matheson, Dvorak

Habs <-- Boqvist, Texier, Voracek

Columbus get a replacement for Gavrikov in their top 4, while Dvorak gives them a middle 6 forward for a couple of seasons for what is usually a player's peak

Montreal add a talented young RD in Boqvist, as well as a potential long term middle 6 forward in Texier, while also clearing significant salary for the summer of 2024

That's well constructed.

I think Texier offers a skill/grit combo that the Jackets are very short on. So I'd be hesitant to make that trade unless he asks to be moved.

Matheson and Dvorak offer a lot of utility to the Jackets. Not on good deals but that's two lineup holes covered right there.

Voracek is almost certainly going to be on LTIR so I'm not sure if it matters if he's included.

The premise is interesting and certainly not one-sided.

I think Texier is a good player with positive value but I don't know where he would fit in Montreal's long term plan; MTL probably needs Matheson short term more than Texier long term so not worth it for them to put the value out to acquire Texier. Voracek is an accounting move but with Price already on LTIR I don't think MTL can afford him over the summer.

How about a skimmed version, both packages roughly worth a late first:
Boqvist for Dvorak + pro-ready prospect (LD Struble / LD Norlinder / W Ylonen / C Kidney / C Mysak)
