Is Matthews stupid? Why doesn't he try to score 4 in the playoffs instead of a regular season game? Pageau proved that year that it's an effective way to win in the playoffs.

Here’s the rub my man …. The leafs have had trouble beating the bostons and floridas and tampas (and a Cinderella Montreal). Most of those teams made a cup final or won the Stanley cup.

Ottawa had an embarassing failure of an entire season last year. High hopes and this team SHIT THE BED so hard, you fans should have been calling for players heads.

This year you limp into the playoffs, impressing nobody because your team still somehow underperformed their moderate expectations and you think they’re ready to go to war with a leafs team who has been through the battles with team 10x better than you?

The Leafs were birthed into this type of series, and have been through the hell that this sens team couldn’t begin to understand.

This might be one of the greatest posts I have ever read. The boasting of years of battles that have resulted in Leaf failure verges on satire and I am living for every second of this.

Look who you cheer for. Yeeesshh! I'm not calling other people cringe. I just said the nickname "Beast Mode Cowboys" is cringe. If you tried reading for once. You'd notice I had good things to say about Tkachuk and Sanderson.

This is the type of stuff I talk about. The Leafs could not be more different than they were during that time. Keep in mind, Mike Babcock was fired 3 months earlier. The Leafs defense was lead by Tyson Barrie as their #2 dman. Dubas was fully on the skill train, we had 5 foot 8 Denis Malgin types on the 4th line.

The Leafs are not even attempting to approach the game the same way and haven't for years. This is about 3 or 4 years into the obvious retool the Leafs did and the results are showing.

Young, tough, fast team playing with nothing to lose vs old slow soft playoff chokers with everything on the line
 
In the 20+ years since these teams last met in the playoffs, my absolute hate for the Leafs dissipated, then turned into pity from all the failure. Still liked seeing them lose, but there's been no rivalry since 2004 really. This is only the 2nd time both Ontario teams have made the playoffs together and it's hard to hate something when you suck or they suck.

Montreal has come along and filled that hate void with certain insufferable fans who think every player they draft is the 2nd coming of Gretzky/Orr and their rightful ownership of the Stanley Cup is imminent. I hate Montreal now and I grew up as a fan, only switching over to Ottawa because we got the team here. I was still cheering for the Canadiens in 93 for their cup run, so it's weird to think how different I feel today.

10 minutes in this thread has erased all that. God I hate the Leafs!

This will be a close series regardless of fan bluster. The takes in here are ridiculous lol

I'm talking in general. As far as I and many Leaf fans are concerned, anything from the Habs series and before might as well be a different time but is used against the Leafs.

Since then, they chose to retool into a physical cycling team. It took many years to slowly replace guys with the new type of player because they are hard to find. A combo of trades, drafting, and UFA signings over the years.

Like those era teams Dubas would trade firsts for Foligno and he would be our "toughness". Now the Leafs in general are tough. 12 different players with a fighting major this season

What would you say are the weaknesses of this year's Leaf team?

Their most glaring weakness is their penalty kill. After that, I guess no offensive threats on the blue line. Those are the two biggest areas that I think another team attacks with any system adjustments.

I think the Sens will be trying to double team down low to force the puck back to the point knowing we don't have anyone up there who is that dangerous at the blueline

Don’t forget that the leafs killed the Tampa dynasty and that the bruins were also ruined by the constant 7 game wars with the leafs.

Toronto climbed the toughest ladder to get to the top of the Atlantic division, standing on the grave of the bruins and will not be challenged by a disappointing Ottawa team.

Take your beef with Frank castle elsewhere. The just as insane but broke Batman gets shit done.
Must like the leafs are about to do by stomping out this pretender senators team
