There definitely should have been. One of the many flaws of Eugene Melnyk if you ask me.

Meh, I think it's being a little sensitive.

I've been to plenty of Sens-Leafs games over the years, usually with one of my friends who are Leafs fans. (not in the playoffs mind you)

There are many Leaf fans in Ottawa, that's just the way it is. My wife and her entire family are from Toronto and they were Leaf fans at one time.

As long as it doesn't get violent and the ribbing isn't too mean-spirited, I think it raises the level of excitement in the rink.

The best thing that Ottawa can do is become more competitive again, and hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

The playoffs aren't usually as even as the regular season.

Look at all those Leaf fans cheering in solidarity with Mike Fisher.

I will say that the secondary market is much easier to access nowadays so it may be more even than in the past.

I know, that's why the Senators don't really have much to lose, they just wanted to make the playoffs, and now the goal will be to just win a round. That's why no Sens fans are nervous but Leaf fans are shaking like a... leaf.
You are wrong. If anything, a lot of Leaf fans in here are overconfident which is a problem in a few ways (they are annoying your fans more, and setting themselves up for meltdowns and tantrums if Leafs lose).
I would rather be in Ottawa's position (excited to be there) than the Leafs (they must win, and a series win alone will not excite anyone) from a sports psychology perspective though.

No, they can exist. They just shouldn’t be allowed to wear that jersey.

Oh all the pressure is on us without a doubt.

Either they learn to handle it or they don't, and nothing we say or do will change that.

It's a fake overconfidence. They're doing a bad job of hiding their nervousness with a really transparent cockiness.

Was this one of those things where warring tribes/factions marry their children to children from the other side to foster peace?

That's not a bad idea.

No, there aren't too many examples of expansion teams going to a city that is already mad about hockey. Most Ottawa hockey fans already had their favourite teams.

Some switched right away, some switched over time, and some didn't at all.

Mrs_NyQuil was a Leafs fan and I was a Rangers fan.

We're starting to see an entire generation of parents who grew up as Senators fans from birth, which is nice to see.

I'm sure. We can all tell you're nervous. That's fine though, it makes sense to be nervous. The possibility of losing to a lesser team in Ottawa is very real.

I'm more nervous than I would be against any other playoff team, obviously due to the rivalry and the early 2000s history.

But I'd still rather play the Leafs than the Panthers and the Bolts (as would most Leaf fans I imagine) and we're going to have to play Toronto at some point, so might as well be now.

We own TBay but I don't care who we play tbh.

Not going to happen. Senators are going to come out thinking if they play fast and throw hits the Leafs will melt. Will last maybe a period before the Sens get sat down by the Leafs and realize they are the smaller team. Then they will try to outskill the Leafs.

Leafs entire gameplan is to let them skate around the outside doing nothing and patiently await the Sens to make mistakes (which they will) then stomp on them.

If I recall, even the Leafs donated money.

Everybody wins.

There was a promotion where you could turn in a Leafs jersey for Sens tickets.

Mrs_NyQuil turned in the very Leafs jersey I bought her as a gift when we were in high school.

You have to remember, back in the day, we watched Molson Leaf hockey and followed the '93 Leafs on Global just like everybody else.

You might want to check out some old NHL Draft broadcasts on youtube. There's a couple (full length) that take place in Ottawa or heavily feature the Sens because they pick high (one is the Daigle draft). It's a nice watch waiting for the draft if you have nostalgia for the 90s era NHL.

And if ottawa loses we won't have enough psychiatrists to go around helping the Sens fans deal with Leafs Derangement Syndrome. Ottawa will go insane lol

I'm not nervous at all. Perfect time to play the Leafs. No pressure, no expectations. This series has all the makings of an underdog win.

Nah. Ottawa is done in 5. You heard it here first. Go get 'em Auston.

That doesn't sound right. I think what's more likely to happen is Brady is going to start game 1 by repeatedly taking runs at Marner and Matthews, making them regress any "toughness" you think they developed this year. Then the Leafs will try to open up the ice and run into Amadio, Pinto, Grieg, Sanderson, and Zub and won't get anything done. Sens take game 1, Leafs confidence is shot, and HockeyVirus continues to be nervous.
