You had the series in the palm of your hand with a 4 minute PP in overtime and you’re blaming the goalie.

The goalie let in 4 goals on 21 shots in 4 periods. When a goalie has an .810 save percentage in a game, he was part of the problem.

They should have won, for sure. Losing Tavares on an uncalled illegal hit to the head for that PP sure favoured Ottawa. Instead of Tavares as a threat to score we had Rielly at the point doing nothing.

I seem to recall him returning to the game after the accidental collision.

I would have thought the double minor would have been enough.

Yes, after missing over half the period and the 4 min PP you referenced.

Ottawa was outshot 34-21 at home with their season on the line and the Leafs losing their 2C for the majority of OT.

Doesn’t say much about the rest of the team if they can’t get it done in his absence.

It's known the Leafs lack depth at centre. With Tavares out - who's their #2 centre? Domi? Laughton? Players that you pay 11M are pretty important. When you're paying them 11M, you can't afford the depth (until next season when he's not making 11M). Laughton played more than Tavares this game due to his injury.

Hopefully it was just concussion spotters and not a serious issue. They'll get past Ottawa without Tavares but not likely to go much further.

Toronto is the better team and will win the series. But the fact that Ottawa won tonight and has been taking the division champ to OT every night has me feeling optimistic moving forward… Ottawa is on the way up and Toronto is in the prime of their window… we’re right there with them

Most playoff games are low scoring and won by 1 (excluding empty net goals). The margins are slim.

Even when Toronto lost to Florida in 5, 3 of the losses were one goal games, 2 in OT. You determine who's better by who wins the series not because you lost by fewer than you were expecting. Teams don't get extra points for winning by more goals. They focus on protecting leads rather than expanding them in the playoffs.

1. Good quick edit...
2. "Low Scoring" is what I was posting on...

Sure, some games have higher scoring. Usually tightens up as the playoffs go on. The margin of victory is usually 1 or 2 (excluding EN goals) though. Teams are more fixated on winning games than their goal differential.

Watching the recap of the Florida/Tampa game right now. Holy crap would we ever be getting pressed right now. Lucky draw with the Leafs for the Sens tbh. A nice way to 'ease' into the playoff atmosphere for a rookie team. 3 OT's in a row is as close a series you could hope for. Those Florida teams are the 'real deal' tho. Scary stuff.
