You gotta give Ottawa full marks. They could easily be up 2-1. The margins are super thin.

And the Leafs could have beaten MTL in 2021 with another goal, could have beaten Tampa in 2022 with another goal, could have beaten BOS last year with another goal.

OTT hasn't been terrible considering it's their first playoff appearance with the Stutzle/Tkachuk core, but you have to win to really get praise.

The Leafs do seem to have a hell of a time winning their fourth game of a series. They almost always win three but often get stuck on three wins. However, with up to four chances to deliver the final blow, they're definitely going to take this series. It's a question of when and how much energy they can save for round two now.

It'll be interesting to see if Berube calls out the officiating like Green and Maurice did. He doesn't seem like that kind of guy though.

Even though I don't like their coach, the Leafs seems more stable or something this season. They've been way more consistent than usual, and there was no distraction with off-ice nonsense or Matthews' goal totals or anything. Everybody seems a bit more dialled in to long-term success this year. So far, they look good. I mean, they've still needed overtime in 2/3 games to get wins, but wins are wins.

Too bad for the Sens, but presumably this is good experience for them. Just a coin flip in two of the games, but them's the breaks...

In the Leafs first playoff series of this era, Matthews and co went up against the presidents trophy winning Caps and took every game to OT winning 2 of them.

If the Sens could be up 2-1, the Leafs could’ve easily won that series.

Yet here we are, talking about the Leafs 9 year playoff failures. Moral victories are not victories.

I think I need both hands to count how many times I saw Stutzle fly down the wing with the puck only to have Carlo poke check it away from him.

Does he not have any other options than that one move?

Nah this is what we should expect for reffing. Ottawa had the most pp all season from flopping they expect the calls. We gotta be too big to rig. Leafs players or coaches can never dare call out the refs, other teams sure but we will always get fined and penalized for it.

Winner definitely went off someone. It changes angle.

It's likely Matthews but good on him for not taking it from Benoit.

I think he touched the puck on the Knies goal too (and it looked like Ullmark might have saved it if he hadn't). It's entirely possible Matthews actually had a hattrick last night. Someone in the crowd must have thought so too because they tossed their hat on the ice after the game winner.

Either that or they were completely disgusted with the result.

OEL had him a couple times too lol Timmy comes flying down the wing and the Leafs did just calmly pokes the puck off his stick lol

This is a big learning curve for the Sens. In Game 1 they were so naive with how they played at times. Giving up a rush to one of your opposition's best players, letting OEL just wander into the slot, Reilly getting a shot on goal from miles out.

Those things have been improved on in game 2 and game 3 and both were very tight. They'll lose the series but this will help them massively for when they're back here again.

Berube calls out the refs, and we'll be on the receiving end more than last night.

That's the way it was with Pat Quinn. The more he called out the refs, the more penalties we got. And it also sent a bad message to the players who also started complaining constantly. The best move is to stay quiet and leave the whining to us fans. Unless you're Tortella. That guy is comedy gold.
