I can only imagine how civil it would be in here today had the Sens drawn first blood.

Fans can have fun, Leafs, Sens or, um, others. It's part of being a fan.

That said, Ottawa isn't going to roll over. It's going to be a f***ing war. There's only one way for the Leafs to shake that perennial "choke" label.

OP said no contact on the play, gif shows clear contact. Why make shit up?

Big talk after Matthews diving display, btw
What does Matthews getting boarded have to do with Greig accidentally on purpose running into Stolarz? Nobody is saying he dove lol he went to the net with a purpose...he was either scoring or he was going to try and injure Stolarz. Failed at both.

LOL. Not even the refs think that was a boarding penalty - they called it as a crosscheck. IMO Matthews folded to draw the penalty. Multiple subsequent similar crosschecks went uncalled during the game. If someone's going to say Grieg went down easy, well, there's a perfect example of a Leaf player going down easy and getting a call from it.

I responded to someone who said there was no contact from Marner on the play. There clearly was.

I think there is a clear gap here between these teams. I think Ottawa is going to come out and pour it on the Leafs because they got beat badly, and then the Leafs are going to turn it on and show this was never a close series at any point.

I suspect that the Sens are going to come out very, very physical for Game #2 since trying to play a skill game didn't work out so hot for them. If the Leafs can weather that, the series will effectively be over.

Pretty much this, people hate on Leafs fans simply for being confident and supporting their team, aka basic fanbase behaviour. You can never win with them.

A lot of them will say they hate us for simply existing or for the meme

That’s okay, we weren’t all that surprised about how weak the bruins looked this year. I thought they’d crash and burn last year though. Which eventually, they did

Oh what a burn…
It’s amazing how you can’t have any real talks about the Leafs with Leafs fans

I have money for the Leafs to win this, but home team, game 1, Stanley Cup expectations. Usually the 1st 10mins are the survival minutes for opposing teams and I didn’t feel the pressure from the Leafs

Doesn’t mean they s..ck just expected them to go out of the gate with different energy

No leaf fan expected them to come out of the gate like hell. Many of us expected Ottawa to do that and we’d be down a goal or two early.

They were already attempting to injure. No chance we leave the series without a suspension from someone on ottawa is my guess. They are not tough and have no idea how to be without being dirty

That depends on George and how he feels that particular day.

So what if Grieg didn't make an attempt to stop?

Either do the same to their goalie or pound Grieg into the ground at the end of a blow out.

This is the playoff baby!

They played like unhinged clowns and got the result they deserved because of it with the Leafs PP going white hot on them

They don’t need to be anymore physical then they were in game 1. PK needs to be better, a part of that is goaltending and staying out of the box. They controlled game flow by being first on pucks and winning battles, they need to continue to do that. Leafs were opportunistic and surgical when they had the chances. Not sure where the skill game comment comes from, wasn’t how they played game 1.

Goaltending and special teams win in the playoffs.

Great start for leafs.

Game 2 will be a dandy, unless ullmark shits the bed again.

Sens got away with tons of clear penalties like this one. No contact and zero attempt to avoid the goalie.

They were taking 3 penalties a shift and complaining they were called for 5% of their infractions.

Greig is doing a good job of playing the little bitch boy role. Let's see if it catches up to him.

In fairness, I think a lot of that comes from the style the Sens play (and I mean that with all due respect). There isn't a lot of ice out there. They don't get into a lot of run-and-gun games, and want to control the neutral zone, hit everything in sight and capitalize on their opportunities. I think the Leafs showed a lot of energy early and tried to match the Sens hit for hit. The Leafs get this "soft" label from a lot of uneducated fans, but they play a very heavy game.

A couple of defensive lapses from the Sens and it was 2-0.

The shots were like 13-4 midway through the first (I think), but the Leafs limited high danger chances. Both teams seemed nervous, almost tentative, early on, and feeling each other out. That Stutzle penalty after the 2-1 goal was the turning point. They just came unf***ed after that.

Yup I expect a huge push back from Ottawa . 5 on 5 was pretty competitive .

Competitive, maybe. But not really dangerous. There wasn't a ton of quality chances for Ottawa, even with their higher shot count.

5on5 Ottawa already showed the best they can do. And it wasn't enough. The Leafs still outscored Ottawa 3-2 on even strength. The skill disparity is just too big.

Sens and Ullmark in particular just put up a stinker. Not sure if they're a good enough team to do that even once and still win a series like this but one game doesn't necessarily mean everything. Going to need Linus to dial in sharpish and get more pucks into the Leafs' high danger areas.

The Leafs tend to like to do things the hard way so I still see this going at least 6 games.
