Series Talk: [A1] Toronto Maple Leafs vs [WC1] Ottawa Senators | Part II (TOR lead 3-1)

Yes there is. Toronto has elite goaltending this year. Their actual 5v5 play is not that much different from previous years, arguably slightly worse.

Their fans have been saying their goaltending is better and that should make a difference.

They also play better defense in front of their net (in terms of positioning and boxing out and such). Tanev is better in his own end than any defenseman they had last year.

The core four guys have the talent to put up points. Playing against an inexperienced playoff team can be advantageous. If they keep getting a lot of PP chances, this series could get ugly.

We were told before the series that Ottawa has the better goaltending though. One game and Stolarz has gone from an unproven nobody to the reason the Leafs are good lol

We were told a lot of things. Was the Playoff Warrior even in the arena last night?

It's only the first game, but if the Leafs keep their cool, Ottawa will have difficulty winning one let alone four.

Gotta say it was funny seeing so many sens fans pre game 1 shit on the core 4 for choking yet ignore Ullmark's awful choking playoff numbers and then the core four absolutely torches ullmark game 1 🤣

Leafs had the #3 team save% this season behind Winnipeg and Tampa. That's just the fact.

Ullmark certainly has the ability to be as good or even better than either Stolarz or Woll, but there might be something to the fact that he just crumbles in the playoffs. They were talking about Blackwood and his inexperience on the TNT panel on Avs-Stars Saturday, and Kevin Weekes said it well: "I'd rather have a goalie with no playoff experience, than one with bad playoff experience". That was clearly on display last night.

Ottawa looked like a 1 line team that didn't have an answer for the offensive firepower of Toronto.

Talent was the difference in this one. The Leafs got goals from rushes and power plays. Times where skill comes through the most. Ottawa can't match. Even Tavares, the old guy, got his rebound goal off his own between his legs redirection. Tons of skill.

I think we’re owed about 4 makeup calls in Game 2, soooo :D

Stolarz played good, the key to getting some offense will be getting on top of the juicy rebounds he was spitting out.

Stolarz is actually pretty great for gobbling up rebounds. There were a few in game 1, its true. But I'd bet you'll get pretty thirsty waiting for more juicy rebounds in this series.

Ottawa lots of room to improve. All expectations on Toronto, as Ottawa gets stronger pressure on Toronto increases and we’ll see how they do when the series gets to be like real playoff hockey and not reffed by women’s league officials
