I'm American...Its apparent that our whole team is slow with the few exceptions of Gomez, Liles and a couple of others...

If you were the GM of Team USA who would you have selected as your roster to improve this team?

Mike York.

Gionta instead of Hull;
Dunham instead of Conklin;
Marchant instead of Conroy;
and Yorkie

there's not really much else we could have done...

Does the name Bobby Holik mean anything to you guys at all?

or how about changing the rearguard with some youth...Chelios has sucked big lemons as has Weinrich...they're just too friggin' slow and it showed in the Russia game...I wish Hull was left at home as well...freaking cry baby.

Yeah, it means grossly overpaid player and a prime example of why there will be no hockey till January.

I would have found a spot for Mike York, Mark Parrish, and Paul Mara. Otherwise, I think it's about as good as it was going to get. The major issue IMO has been the decimation of the blueline, with the injuries and pullouts really changing the face of the team. Leopold, Hatcher, and Schneider would have made a big differance.

I'm not America I'm Canadian but I would still like to throw in my 2-cents worth in here.........why was Jamie Lagenbrunner left off the roster the first 2-games for America?.....I've always liked him and he adds some much needed speed to the U.S. lineup......Roenick would have looked great too but he's injured.....seems to me that Americas' problem is their core group of players are getting too old......guys like Hull, Chelios, Leetch, LeClair.........they need to start inserting some younger guys into their lineup but who those players are is the question?........they don't have the luxury that Canada with the size of talent pool to draw players from............If they can get Brett Hull back and insert him into the lineup that could help too......

America seems to be a little bit thin in Net as well.....not too sure if adding a guy like John Grahame from the Stanley Cup champs Tampa Bay would have helped.......he's plays with the 3-Tampa players on Team Canada's roster and who knows if that would have been any help playing against the Canucks right?.......

The other thing I can see where America might be weak in is the teams' toughness......they could use another couple of guys like Keith Tkachuk on their roster.......

One other option that might have been available would have been for the Yanks to "steal" a couple of the Canadian-born players that have duo-citizenship......Canadian guys with some skill that almost never crack the Canada roster.........a guy like Steve Sullivan quickly comes to mind here.....and he's got speed to burn.......but then the next question becomes would Sullivan allow himself to play for the Americans?.........they could have also done the same thing with a Canadian goalie........a couple of guys like Dwayne Roloson OR Manny LeGace for example It's safe to say will never be goalies for Team Canada BUT on a Team USA they would be of great service I think.

I don't think overall talent was/is the issue with the U.S. team. Desire and work ethic seems to have been the primary obstacle to success. Goaltending has been great, and there's nothing we can do about the injuries to the defense.

I think Erik Cole would be a great guy to have for the Americans. I know he probably doesn`t have the talent of alot of other guys but I think he would be a perfect guy for that team because he has speed to burn, will through the body around and would be a perfect 4th line energy guy who might even chip in offensively.

Personally, I would have gone alot younger than they did. Maybe the only vets worth keeping would be Chelios, Guerin, Modano. Also Hatcher if he would be able to play.

Oh really? Who would have you put on the team before Tkachuk?

Well if last year's World Juniors are any indication of the talent pool, we won't have to wait long.

I actually would have actually left a few of the older guys on the team, like Madano and guerin. But I would have had Martin on the original along with Leopold. Malone and Parrish would have been on the team, and a prospect like O'Sullivan or Parise would have been added as well.

Maybe instead of Conklin I would have added Montoya, just for the experience.

One of the problems is that our blueline just isn't that imposing. Besides most of it being old, who besides Chelios strikes fear into opponents? And Chelly is ancient.

If guys like Schneider, Hatcher and Carney had opted to play, our blueline would have been much better. Then you would have had some of the balance necessary to make for good D pairs.

They could have paired a Carney or Hatcher with Leetch and one could have paired with Rafalski. Chelios could have maybe paired with Schneider.

A healthy Leopold would have helped. He's a good D-man with speed. Martin can be that if he plays again Tuesday. I also would have selected Paul Mara instead of Weinrich. Mara is a rising star on the blueline with good skating and offensive abilities.

Sean Hill also might have been an interesting choice to round out our D.

At forward, I'd have selected York, Marchant and maybe Gionta. I also like Erik Cole and think he wouldn't have been a bad choice. Neither would a Scott Hartnell.

This team is in transition obviously. But I do want to see them win. If Wilson sticks with the lineup he had against Slovakia, that's their best chance against Russia.

ah yes, good call, fellas.. i forgot Scott Hartnell... and Erik Cole... how is a kid from Oswego, NY left off the roster?

and not a big Ron Wilson fan, doesn't strike me as a guy that players would rally around... too much on the X's and O's...
