In fairness, we shot that video a year ago after Chicago eliminated LA in the Conference Finals. Kopitar looked less than stellar during that run (many thought he was injured). It was a fair answer on the part of Bernstein given what had transpired.

That Couture was better at that point (or any point) than Kopitar after teh Kings had just eliminated the Sharks? Gonna have to disagree there. Plenty to criticise Kopi for sure, but no way has Couture ever been better.

It was not a fair answer.

That was no ordinary slump; everyone could see something wasn't right in the way Kopitar was moving.

Furthermore, it was atypical. Even when he's not scoring, Kopitar normally dominates in puck possession. All of a sudden he wasn't.

Bernstein took a short sample and jumped to the wrong conclusions. There was plenty of evidence to suggest that was the exception, not the rule.

It's times like that you have to step back and look at the big picture. This roundtable didn't. Big, big miss.

Kopi was hurt during that run. Don't care what he said after the series, it was just too obvious. He wasn't just ineffective, he was plain bad.

That was painful to watch, like a live recording of an HF discussion. Kind of like that "Trade Kopitar" thread in October.

Ha, I remember that. I also remember saying that the day the Kings trade Kopitar would be the day they start rebuilding. Only one center in the NHL I would even consider trading Kopitar straight up for.

Never paid attention to that guy. I mean, I've heard some of you say he's a moron, but I mean... WOW!

Yeah him and the Mayor we're all over trading Williams at the deadline too, with Bernstein down right disappointed we didn't. I appreciate what they do for hockey, but they both can be downright wrong in their assessments.

"...sooner than later..."
"...take it to the bank..."
"...a name that is garnering heavy interest..."

That was pretty good. Just mute it at Dennis Bernstein and they made some good points about Kopitar.

I personally think if Kopitar doesn't go through that pretty big slump a annually he'd be PPG.

Kopitar is one talented player, but it isn't crazy to think Kopitar can be better.

He has pretty good speed, agility, a real nice snap shot, hands. You name it he's got it. I think Kopitar is one of the best centers in the league. I just think there's times where he doesn't realize what he's capable of. Like when he's just constantly on the perimeter or not taking players on one on one.

I think a lot of them made valid arguments about Kopitar. I think he's had a wonderful season though personally this year. Hell of a bounce back from last year.

But this isn't the best Kopitar is capable of and we all know it. The guys just too good. And even if this is his best, then I'm all for it. Because this is really good too.

Maybe he does need some team psychologist and that's not a bad thing honestly. If it gets him playing at his highest level more consistently then that's great. And there's no bar side for him to try to talk to someone about it. I just think it's just a confidence issue most of the time with Kopitar. Because we all know he's not a lazy player.

I'd sooner vote for a psychologist to visit this panel. :)

Question one, How did you block out the dominant play in the Cup run just a year before?

Question two, how do you still not come out and admit that you're wrong?

DB is a sensationalist really.

When the Kings are doing well they are the best.

When something goes wrong they are the worst.

When Kopitar was down, all of a sudden he wasn't elite and he was being passed by everyone. When the Kings didn't get a defenseman at the deadline they were "first-round and out."

He is what he is.

Sorry, I can't agree.

You can't say it's fair after one terrible postseason, just like when Gann wasn't fair in his article about Kopitar getting "back" in elite status, as if the bad postseason suddenly undoes all he has accomplished.

Kopitar had a terrible playoffs last year, for whatever reason, I don't know. But a player with Kopitar's talent who sacrifices scoring to play defense and helps his team win WILL usually pick it up offensively down the road. Some people decided to make their conclusions last year, and hopefully they will treat it as a learning experience.

Or they will defend it to their graves, not admit they made a hasty judgement, and blast those who call them on it. It's usually one or the other these days.
