All through out this board, I see comments like "Orr is useless, I don't want him in the line up" or fourth lines that have Komarov Steckel Frattin, with no Orr and Brown. Do you people feel comfortable having Brown as the only legitimate scrapper on the team? And please don't tell me " Komi, Phaneuff, Komarov and Brown is good enough to keep the other team in check". Komi is an average fighter who will drop when he needs to but isn't making the other team think twice before doing something stupid, Phaneuff is our captain not a guy you want scraping a lot and Brown is an elite middle weight, hes not a guy you want to fight heavies or multiple time a game. Komarov is not a fighter, hes been in like a few fights his whole career. According to people at the camp, Orr has lost around twenty pounds, making him lighter. Hes skating has improved by leaps and bounds and looks decent at camp. I'd rather have him on the team then Steckel, Lombardi and Connoly, Who are all washed up and not offer the team anything great.

Look at our own division and how tough it got. Boston is probably the toughest or one of the toughest team in the league. Montreal has Prust, Moen, White,Bourque and Boullion ,they are not the pushovers and with their roster tougher than the leafs. Buffalo, got Big John Scott, added Steve Ott and plus have Cody McMormick and Foligino. Ottawa has Neil, Smith and Greening. Plus the Panthers got tougher with Parros, Lighting got Crombeen along with Aulie, Isles got Carkner, and Boulton in the offseason plus with Hamonic and and Martin they are one of the tougher teams in the league, the Hurricanes traded for Westgrath and the GM Rutherford said he wants to add another tough guy and has said he is making his team tougher because that is how the east is shaping up. Do we really want another soft team in the toughest division in hockey and a really tough conference? It makes no sense to expose our small top 9, with no added muscle making sure they can play confidently. I hope our fourth line is Orr Komarov Brown and Fraser makes the team to. Having Orr, Brown, Fraser and Komo on the team will allow us to compete with the other teams in our division.

Having Orr, Brown, Fraser, and Komisarek on our team will alow us to compete with the other teams? Nope... Not at all....

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Grabo - Kadri
Kulemin - McClement - MacA
Brown - Steckel - Orr

Phaneuf - Gunnarson
Liles - Gardiner
Fraser - Komisarek

The best line-up I could come up with if we included all these guys... Our 3rd D-pairing would be horrible and our 4th line would be useless.... Players like Brown or Prust or Ott are useful because they can play hockey and are tough.

We need more players like Ross (what he's projected to be), Devane, Biggs, Dustin brown-type players with some skill... It's coming up within the next few years and for now we should settle with Brown and Komi/Holzer on D....

In a few years, our bottom 6 could look something like:

Kulemin - XXXX - Biggs (Colbourne? Leivo? I have no idea)
Devane - Steckel/McClement - Ross/Brown

Pretty feisty bottom 6 that can at least take care of themselves.

Pretty sure he meant prescribing medicine, since the word comes from prescription.

And how is having fighters going to help us win? That's all they do, fight. And not one of MTL's forwards listed is a good fighter, Smith and Greening for toughness, that's funny, and we claimed Steve MacIntyre. Guy's a monster.

Pretty sure that's not true and it was just a rumour... I read on here earlier that he passed through waivers

Unless that poster was lying, I think it was made-up.

Fraser is a tough hardnosed defender, he is not useless at all. There is a reason why he has a training camp invite. Komo, I'm hoping he can rebound and I expect him to in Randy's more defensive approach. Brown far from useless, Orr played significantly minutes in the Marlies last year, his skating has improved and hes lost weight to be more useful. And agreed I can't wait till we have Devane, Biggs, Broll and Ross up with the big club.

Smith would own everyone in our roster (excluding Orr, Fraser and Brown). And Greening held his own against Dion last year. Leaf fans say Mcaruthur, Kuli are tough players but don't think Smith and Greening are . We didn't pick him up, no one confirmed it.

FWIW, Mac's a career 3(?)-0, and if I remember correctly, all of them haven't been close

2-0 and against the feared Spacek and Chad Larose,. If he actually fought a guy who knew how to handle himself he'd get owned.

Yeah, Fraser is a hard-nosed defender... But our defense needs more skill.
An elite defensive-Dman (what Schenn showed season 1 and 3) would help our defense out immensely right now...

I'm a big fan of Brown, and I think he has a place on our team for the next few years at least (until Devane, Ross, Biggs, etc. come up and MIGHT push him off the team), but it seems like your counting on Komi bouncing back when it's unlikely he will... I've said that two years in a row now and he hasn't performed well (he might improve under Carlyle, but I'm thinking it's unlikely).

I don't know why we need an Orr on our team either. I LOVE when he fights and he is a great fighter, but almost nobody would fight him last year so what's his use? We need a more skilled player that can fight (aka Brown, Devane). Still got a soft-spot for Orr though.

Phaneuff Gunnarson
Lilles Gardener
Komo Fraser

I think that's a nice balance of skill and toughness. You need some grit and nasty back there, to clear out the garbage in front of the net. Outside of Komo we have no one that can do that. We need an Orr because we play in the toughest division in hockey and a tough conference.Again from all accounts, Orr has lost weight, his skating has improved and has looked solid. Other teams have stock piled guys ready for combat, while were talking the French army approach and asking them to be gentle when they give it to us. Do you not remember against Boston, Neil going after Garbo and so on form last year.

mcclement 6'1 - 205lbs
Komi - 6'4, 243lbs
Phaneuf - 6'3, 215 lbs
Holzer -6'3 205lbs

this teams fine on size and strength, need skill. Boston didn't win the cup just with hitting. They had 2 solid scoring lines, gritty checking lines, tough defence and a stellar goalie. The physical game is just one aspect, we need more help on the skill side

Komi and Fraser should NEVER see top 4 minutes.... so unless you want them to, do you really think a pairing of Liles - Gardiner will work out? too much offense, not enough defense.... and if you put one of Liles or Gardiner with Phaneuf it'll be a recipe for disaster....

Komi and Fraser will not make a good pairing either IMHO...

You've mistaken thinking just cause the players big that they can actually fight.

Frattin -is not a guy who knows how to scrap or defend a team mate properly. Look at his fight against Foligino last year.

JVR- Not a fighter

Steckel- Hes like 6-7 but actually plays like hes 5-6

Mcclement- Not a fighter

Komi- Decent

Phaneuff- average fighter. but how often do you want your captain fighting?

Holzer- Big body, bit of nasty but considered a soft player in the ahl

Yes Orr should be on the team. We have lots of big players sure, but after lucic takes a cheap shot who's gonna do anything? If I were lucic I'd do whatever I want too. Who's gonna stop him? Komi, dion, jvr, brown, steckel, kuli? Orr plays on the 4th line, a lot of you head coaches forget that. All he has to do is play solid defensively firstly and secondly allow the skilled players to feel "safe" per say. None of you all stars would understand that though. You all snipe 5g a game and are willing to drop them anytime.
