Ok, here's the situation...

I usually do a yearly trip (3/4 days) somewhere to watch the Isles. Have been to a # of cities, most recently -- Montreal, Colorado, and Toronto.

I want to go to Vancouver. Isles play there early March.. The flights out of NY SUCK, and are over $500. Nonstops are few and far between. And its a long flight. Travel time is 8-10hr with layover. And this game is in early March -- where NY could be snowed in -- potential weather trouble.

However, flights to Seattle are dirt cheap, like $280 r/t. Just silly cheap.

I could catch a flight there, see Seattle.. take a quick train ride up the coast, get into Vancouver, and then fly home from there. I could see a Canuck game in November, and not see the Isles (Dallas I believe), but the weather would be better.

See -- It's supposed to be an Isles trip, but its more $, and the weather could be a pain, and I wouldn't get to see Seattle.

But I could go in November, see more of the coast, and more "culture" in Seattle, but then I'd miss the Isles in March.

Course, you also have to add in that its a lot of flying and traveling for a short amount of time. Ideally, I'd spend a week, but the wife/child might have other views on that. Trying to keep everyone happy here.

I know which way I'm leaning, but....thoughts?

can you build something else interesting into the Seattle trip? Maybe a concert or a Seahawks game?

Having been born and raised in Vancouver and living here currently, let me assure you that the chance of the Isles being snowed-in while in Vancouver is next to zero. It would take the onset of another ice age to snow here at that time of year.

I think it may be the concern of getting snowed in while in NY.

I'll kick in $50

After reading your post 2-3 times it reminded me that occasionally I forget that I took a Vicodin until after I take the 2nd one.

(translation: going on a yearly recurring fan-trip).

(Translation: Trip A, Vancouver. Flights cost too much, flights generally suck anyway, and might get stuck at the airport, unable to go anywhere. Might meet Lucic, hope he is in a good mood).

However, flights to Seattle are dirt cheap, like $280 r/t. Just silly cheap.
(Translation: Trip B: Seattle. All the above variables still suck, but cost less. Might meet Nirvana minus 1.)

I could catch a flight there, see Seattle.. take a quick train ride up the coast, get into Vancouver, and then fly home from there. I could see a Canuck game in November, and not see the Isles (Dallas I believe), but the weather would be better.
(Translation: I can take two equally painful trips and combine them with a risky marriage using a train because what could possible go wrong with rail, and I get the added bonus of missing the main club I am going to watch in the first place - but saves money.)

See -- It's supposed to be an Isles trip, but its more $, and the weather could be a pain, and I wouldn't get to see Seattle.
Translation - I want to cheap out, make the trip as risky for itinerary snafus as possible, and avoid Lucic while meeting Dave Grohl and the tall guy who plays the meaningless instrument)
But I could go in November, see more of the coast, and more "culture" in Seattle, but then I'd miss the Isles in March.
(Translation: Could do something totally different, just saying, because if life is easier, I am happier.)

Course, you also have to add in that its a lot of flying and traveling for a short amount of time. Ideally, I'd spend a week, but the wife/child might have other views on that. Trying to keep everyone happy here.
(Translation: Travel sucks, would rather spend the week in a bathroom with takeout chinese, a TV and my cell phone.)

I know which way I'm leaning, but....thoughts?
(Translation: I will change my mind again every 24 hours until I get chased out of the bathroom. Luckily my condo has two full bathrooms).

Was I close?

Check the train schedule. Once I drove with some friends to Vancouver. They needed to get to San Francisco, my friend was doing a triathlon. I stayed behind a few days in Vancouver - it was the summer I couldn't see a hockey game but I saw a CFL game.

Anyway, I took the train to SF to catch up with my friends. But the Vancouver - Seattle part was by bus. I just saw a tiny bit of the city while on the bus and the train departed not long after we arrived. Don't know if its still like this, but maybe check it out before you make too many plans if you are not keen on taking a bus.

Go SoCo in Nov

Not sure you can do better than Ducks, Kings , Sharks thanksgiving week, cap it off with the USC- Notre Dame game back in LA on sat and you have the trip of a lifetime!

Correct.

My thoughts usually drive people to drink, Vicodin is a step up!

Not bad, but you missed the inference of legal Cannabis in Seattle, which is a huge draw for me. (Ive heard BC is almost as easy)

I have zero interest in Cali for a "hockey trip" -- and frankly less than zero interest in college football.

Don't go anywhere this year. Stay home with the family, build up equity with your wife and spring on her an Isles west coast road trip, including Las Vegas, next year.:yo:

Why would you only take one to begin with?

Excellent point.
The script is only renewable at 30 days / 4 per day / 120 total.
If I over medicate it becomes a painful end of the month.

And it's Dewars rocks for me Dante

Quite an uptick here once the abuse of prescription meds was brought in. Sorry to hijack you Bones .( kidding)

No interest in doing a west coast swing -- exception Vegas..

Ill do Calgary and Detroit before I do Cali.

He who lives by the sword......

Go to Seattle in March, rent a car and drive up to Vancouver. Then you can have the car in and around Seattle. You can stay at many hotels
around the area and have a great time. Seattle and the surrounding area has a ton of things to do including Seattle Thunderbirds and WHL hockey in Everett which is good a time.

If you really want to take the train, you could take Amtrak Seattle to Vancouver, bus/ferry to Victoria (Vancouver Island), and passenger ferry Victoria to Seattle. Then you see Seattle twice and fly out of there cheaper without retracing your steps. Lots of scenery if it is not raining too hard. About five days. There are also car ferry options if your want to rent a car.

My son and I went last year to the game in Vancouver. He goes to grad school at UDub. We drove up to the game and back..two and half hours each way. Thinking on doing the same this year.

I do a few days in Seattle hitting the distilleries and breweries... a good hike if the weather is reasonable....usually get a day somewhere in there. Then drive up to the game getting a hotel in walking distance the arena, spend a day or two in Vancouver, head back and fly home the next day. All in all about a 4-5 day trip. :)

It is very easy honestly, but probably not as easy as Seattle I imagine. That said I haven't been to the states since 2014 so I don't really know how it works down there.
