A relic from the Heatley era, been a trooper for us all these years. I remember the days when he still had the knees to blow past the defensemen on the outside.

Other than Neil I think he was our longest tenured player.
Always was a class act and a real professional. He was a good influence on the team

Good guy, hurt by injuries. At least when he was in the lineup these past few seasons he pushed bad players down the lineup.

Only Karl and Mika remain.

Loved the story about him when the lockout ended:

According to tweets from his agent, Milan Michalek was on the Ceske Budejovice team bus en route to a game in his homeland when he learned the lockout was over. Almost immediately he asked the driver to pull over at a gas station, said good-bye to his temporary teammates, grabbed his equipment and had a friend come get him.

Injuries slowed him down. The lack of a star center when Spezza left hurt.

But he always worked hard and gave everything.

My favourite memory of him is in game 4 of the Rangers series. He came in on a 2 on 1 with Matt Carkner (who just came out of the box and got the puck after a heads up play by Spezza) and absolutely roofed a backhand far-side by Lundqvist to cut the lead to 2-1. It was a huge goal. There was no room at all but Michalek found a way.

I had all the time in the world for Milan Michalek. Guy has lost a step the past little while but there was a time he was a good hand for the team.

Pretty much my thoughts. He always did what he could. Michalek is still useful but not what he was due to injuries.

He came to Ottawa and worked hard when I'm sure others in position might have sulked.
