Sports teams are not run like military. Unless we are talking about the Soviet hockey teams...

And even in the military, respect is not just based on ranks. I think even those who have not been in the military realize this.

Like I said before, Lundqvist never had a letter. What do you think, was he a leader in that locker room or what? I bet he was, and he didn't need stripes for that.

Two points. First of all I didn't bring up the military, but since it was cited, I did see a parallel. Secondly, Lundqvist is no longer on the team so the paradigm of leader without letter is not only obsolete, it is obviously failing miserably amid an apparent vacuum of leadership.

I'm not military, but in my experience championship teams have a more empathetic version of a militaristic system and clear hierarchy is an important piece. Either JD disagrees or the Rangers don't have the right guy wearing a sweater. One thing is certain, this leadership by committee of alternates is not working.

You repeating it over & over doesn't necessarily make it true. This team has a ton of issues, mainly personnel & coaching. A letter sewn on a jersey is at the bottom of the list.

Naming a captain is not going to change shit here. Not one bit.

If you want radical changes, you need to make radical moves. Changing the letter on a sweater of one player is NOT a radical move.

Canning Quinn would be one though.

What is the point of firing Quinn if it is Gorton who is responsible for hiring a new head coach? Gorton has in his 5-6 year as GM re-signed AV and fired him shortly after. Then he hired a rookie coach. He has hired and fired several coaches in Hartford. And several ass. coaches for the Rangers in his time as GM. Most of them failures, if I understand this board correctly.
If there is ever going to be a change it has to start with Jeff Gorton. And JD may well hurry, or he may be glued to him.

I’ve defended Quinn a lot but this just isn’t working. He may not make it through the year or maybe they will just let him finish it off. I’m not giving up on the season but things don’t look good and Tony D was obviously suppose to be a big piece this year so I don’t know anymore
